RITA HOFFNER

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and friend, Rita Mann Masszi Hoffner. She passed away in her home on April 30, at the age of 72. She was born on December 14, 1949 to Alonzo (Mann) and Mabel (Arnett) in South Bend Indiana. Rita graduated from Central High School and moved to Canada in 1969. Rita was preceded in death by her parents and spouses, John Masszi and Raymond Hoffner. Also by sisters, Brenda (Jerry) Tedder and Glenda (Larry) Holcomb. Nephew, Lou Holcomb. Nieces, Lonna Denise Jansen and Larane Holcomb. She is survived by her daughters, Angie (Blake), and Jessica (Jamie) Masszi. Sister, Paula Traver. Grandchildren, Josh (Tessa), Cody (Hailly), and Riley (Jennifer) Dew, Ella Mae Masszi, Marshall, Audrey, and Noah Belcourt. Great-grandchildren, Rayden, Essence, Zoey, and Owen. Nephews, James (Heather) Holcomb, Kevin A. Traver. Nieces, Deanna (Ricky) Burtzlaff, Lonna (Harley) Tedder, Lori (Mike) Lutin, Rishel and Rebekah Traver.
Rita worked hard her whole life. She was a Jill of all trades, painter, cleaner, caregiver. She loved her job and the people she worked with. She retired in 2020. She loved gardening, cooking, embroidery, and talking on the phone. She had an artistic flair and gifted that talent to all her accomplishments. She was a huge animal lover and enjoyed caring for her cat Buford for 11 years. Sheryl Crow, Bob Dylan, Adele, and Tom Petty were some of her favourites. She loved Grey's Anatomy, the mantra "If I can't help you, I won't hurt you" was evident in the way she treated family and friends. She loved horror movies and anything paranormal. She was always there to lend a helping hand. Rita also supported equal rights for everyone. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. Her grandkids were her favourite topic. There was no service prior to cremation as requested by Rita. She has asked that her family have a big cookout in remembrance when they are ready. We love and miss you so much Mom, see you when we get there...
