DR. EDWARD (ED) TOMCHUK
February 7, 1932 June 10, 2022
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Edward Tomchuk on Friday, June 10, 2022.
He is survived by wife Olga, son Ted, daughter-in-law Genelle (Edward), grandsons, Eric and Carson, and favourite (and only) granddaughter Natasha. He is also survived by his siblings, Eleanor, Eadie, Liz and Ernie as well as many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, Mary and Dmytro (Dan) and son Edward.
One of Ed's favourite memories was playing soccer against Tottenham Hotspurs FC when they came to Winnipeg for an exhibition match in 1952. He taught physics at the University of Winnipeg for 44 years, where he served as chairman for the department and won multiple awards, including the Erica and Arnold Rogers Award for Excellence in Research and the Clifford J. Robson Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence. Ed loved teaching and also enjoyed the simple things in life, old movies, French music, good food and spending time with his family. He was an avid traveller, visiting India, Japan, the United States and many European countries with wife Olga.
He will be sorely missed. Cremation has taken place, there will be no formal service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crohn's and Colitis Canada through their website crohnsandcolitis.ca

Olga and family; we are so sorry to learn of Ed's passing. Unfortunately it seems that the only way of keeping abreast of what is happening in Winnipeg is to read the Winnipeg Free Press obituaries. Jeanette and I have been in Nanaimo, of Vancouver Island in BC since mid-Dec. of 2017. I remember Ed's passion for soccer and his University studies as he kept adding degrees. I even wore Ed's old soccer shoes when I was in school. Ed always had a supportive and encouraging word. I'm sure he will be missed by all the surviving family. Our deepest condolences to all of you. - Posted by: RON & JEANETTE GENYK (Cousin) on: Jun 25, 2022
