JAMES (JIM) BERNARD WILSON

James (Jim) Bernard Wilson passed away peacefully on June 24, 2022 at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, MB. He was born October 20, 1938 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Jim was the model of a self-driven man who welcomed a challenge. He and Mom moved with their young family from Halifax to Montreal and then eventually to The Pas and Thompson, finally settling in Winnipeg in the mid-1970s. Each move was motivated by better work opportunities; and all the while he was studying, ultimately completing a university program in accounting. Jim was the financial comptroller in Winnipeg of Greensteel-Pero for many years until retirement. A strong role model, he instilled the values of responsibility and self-motivation in each of his children.
Jim was quick witted and always had a good story to tell. He was a proud Canadian who loved driving, canoeing, and exploring the country - camping with his family from coast to coast. We will always remember him with a dog nearby, a pipe in hand, and his hand-crafted canoe paddles waiting for the next adventure. His love of driving remained true to his last days as he roared around the halls of Deer Lodge in a motorized chair.
He is survived by his wife Iva (nee Hogan) of 63 years, his four children and their spouses, Stephen (Josette), Calla (Jeff), Cathy (Sean), and Carmen (Peter), and the proud grandfather of Christopher (predeceased), Thomas, James, and Francis.
The family are deeply grateful for the professional care, and the genuine joy and respect they had for him as a person, by the health care teams at Deer Lodge Centre, Russell Health Centre and the Grace Hospital. They supported him in living life fully to the end. His pipe and chair are now parked. The sound of his laughter and his delight in life live on forever in our hearts.
To respect his wishes, there will be no public memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg.
