TARCISIO MARDERO
1931 - 2022

With sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Tarcisio Mardero on June 24 at 90 years of age in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Tarcisio will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Anna (nee Copetti); their children, Moira, Steve (Kim) and Claudia; their grandchildren, Mitchell (Nicole), Gregory (Sydney), Adrianna (Chris), Nicholas and Caiden; and family in both Italy and France, including his sister Pierina.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lucia Sangoi and Pietro Mardero; sister Giuditta (Ennio Rizzi), brother Fabio Mardero (Almarosa); brothers-in-law, Armando Stroili, Sergio Copetti (Regina).
Tarcisio was born on August 31, 1931 in Gemona del Friuli, Italy to a hard-working farming family. By the ripe age of 10, he was tending to sheep and cattle in the Carnic Alps through to the end of the war.
Tarcisio immigrated to Canada at the age of 22, arriving at Pier 21 on July 12, 1954. Initially working for the railway, making his way through Western Canada, settling in Winnipeg. He returned to Italy in 1961 to attend a friend's wedding where he met the love of his life. He remained in Gemona, building a home for his parents and marrying Anna on March 18, 1961. Shortly after, he returned to Winnipeg with his new bride, where they made a life together.
Tarcisio had a very strong work ethic, moving from general labourer to construction foreman, working on many iconic Winnipeg buildings. He was also very proud of his work in northern Manitoba and Nunavut.
In his free time, Tarcisio renovated his own home and cottage and was quick to lend a helping hand. Friendship and family were a priority for Tarcisio. He was fiercely proud of his Friulian heritage being a key member of the Fogolar Association of Winnipeg, never hesitating to tackle a project.
Tarcisio put much love and attention into his homemade wine, grappa, sausage, gnocchi, pasta sauce and his impressive vegetable garden. He kept his customs and traditions alive and active, instilling that strong work ethic and values in his children and grandchildren.
He loved the great outdoors and he admired birds of all kinds, especially Purple Martins. He made beautiful houses and feeders for his feathered friends and shared them freely.
Tarcisio demonstrated his love through his helpful ways and with the treasures he'd share - vegetables from his garden, homemade wine, and skillful wooden creations - making everyone's life a little richer for it.
Tarcisio's family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba, the WRHA and the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre's Palliative Care Unit where he spent the final weeks of his life. In lieu of flowers, Tarcisio's family asks that donations be made to Riverview Health Centre, CancerCare Manitoba or that you consider giving blood at Canadian Blood Services.
A private celebration of his life will be held in the coming weeks with close family and friends.

  • Our deepest condolences to the family. So sorry to hear about your loss. Francesco and Miriam Marini - Posted by: Francesco Marini (friend) on: Jul 13, 2022

  • Our deepest condolences go out to Anna and the entire Mardero Family. We were honoured to be Tarcisio and Anna’s neighbours for 28 years. We shared many stories together enjoying a glass of wine or a cold beer on a hot day on the deck, or a good cup of coffee, on a cold winters day. We got to enjoy seeing each others family grow, with many grandchildren running about the backyards. We were the LUCKY recipients of many wooden creations, never ending bottles of wine, grappa, pasta sauce, and all the fabulous vegetables from his garden. Tarcisio spent many hours teaching us and our children, his gardening secrets, and we are proud to say we grow a pretty great tomatoe garden out at our home at the Lake thanks to all the knowledge passed to us from him. We never eat a garden tomato without thinking of him. We will forever be grateful for the time you were in our lives, you were like family to us. The gardens in Heaven will be GLORIOUS with you there! Rest In Peace We love you. - Posted by: Doug & Donna Thorne (Neighbour & Friend) on: Jul 09, 2022
