It is with sadness, we the family announce the passing of Henry Janzen on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home.
Our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather will be remembered and sadly missed by his daughter Margaret (Henry) Daniels, grandchildren, Andrea (Phil), Julie (Zach) and great-grandchildren, Otto and Ambrose, Philip (Jessica); daughter Anne (Gerhard) Heidebrecht, grandchildren, Krista (Daryl) and great-grandchildren, Braden and Cohen, David (Sydney), Steven (Megan); son Henry (Lara) Janzen and grandchildren, Luke and Micah; daughter Doris (Jake) Friesen; daughter Carolene (Wally) Funk and grandchildren, Macaila, Jenae and Dannica.
Henry Janzen was born on August 4, 1926 in Rosengart, Ukraine, and was the fourth of eight children. He grew up in the tumultuous times during Stalin's rule, when the fruit of their labour went to the collective. He initially went to grade school in Rosengart, and from grade 5-8 attended grade school in Osterwich. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and together with his loving wife Helen, raised a family of five children in Winnipeg.
Henry was a dedicated family man, loved the Lord, and the outdoors, especially fishing. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren out for ice cream and teaching them to play dominos.
Henry moved to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home on December 14, 2021. We would like to thank the staff for their care, compassion and support.
Thank you Dad for being such a positive influence and sharing your zest for life, family, and the outdoors.
The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street, interment followed at Sage Creek Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home or Mennonite Central Committee.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I want to express my condolences to the family of the late Henry Janzen. I am a cousin to Henry (our mothers were sisters). My Dad and Mom, Isaac and Katie Kasdorf helped sponsor Henry and his sister Mary to immigrate to Canada in 1948. At that time I was just a young child age 14. Our family lived on a farm in McCreary, MB. It wasn’t long after arrival that both Henry and his sister Mary were able to find employment on neighborhood farms. I have good memories of Henry, he was a fun loving person and we enjoyed many evenings playing table games, especially during the winter months. I was able to find and read the obituary that was listed in the Winnipeg Free Press. - Posted by: Rudy Kasdorf (Cousin ) on: Jul 12, 2022
