BRENNEN SCOTT DECAIGNY

With great sadness the family announces the tragic passing of Brennen Scott DeCaigny on July 4, 2022, at the age of 34 years.
Brennen leaves to cherish his memory with parents, Kerry and Karla DeCaigny; brother Jonathan (Bailee); sister Taylor (Matthew); grandparents: Arthur and Elaine Desmet; aunts and uncles: Charlene and Russ Harrison; Neil Murray; Randy and Fiona Desmet; Krista and Bruce Anning and their families; his beloved dog Mugz, and many friends. Brennen was predeceased by his great-grandparents, grandfather Alphonse DeCaigny, grandmother Sheila DeCaigny and his cousin Brittany Murray.
Brennen was born March 23, 1988, at St. Boniface Hospital. He was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended Windsor Park Collegiate, grade 9, and Churchill High School grades 10, 11 and 12. He excelled as a quarterback for three years with the Churchill Bulldogs who took home the Provincial Championship in 2004. Brennen graduated from Churchill Highschool in 2006 and after graduation Brennen began his career with Pollard Banknote where he was constantly recognized for how hard he worked, moving his way up to press operator at a young age. Brennen was kind, caring, he enjoyed many sports, especially basketball. He loved music, playing guitar, stand-up comedy, spending time with his buddy Mugz and much more. Brennen loved to be the rebel, as many of his friends will always remember. Brennen's journey ended way too soon, and he will be sadly missed by his family and countless friends.
The family would like to thank the first responders who worked so hard to try and save our Brennen.

I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God has laid you see.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh,
to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I've now found peace,
At the end of day.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba.

  • My deepest sympathies to Brennen’s family. Brennen and I worked together on the same crew along with Jon for the last few years. Hard working & funny guy. When we talked about things like movies for example he could come up with lines from movies off the top of his head and I wondered how do you do that. I will miss your energy and good humour. Brennan you were a kind and giving spirit. You’ll be truly missed. - Posted by: Luc Frechette (Brennen’s co-worker) on: Jul 10, 2022

  • Upon hearing the unbearable news of your loss, there is a line from “Les Misérables” that comes to mind. “ There's a grief that can't be spoken, There's a pain goes on and on, Empty chairs at empty tables, Now my friends are dead and gone”. Your community will rally by your side to help carry this weight. They will sit around your table and fill the room with stories of your precious boy. God bless you Karla and your family. - Posted by: Christine Peers (Friend of Karla) on: Jul 09, 2022

  • Dear Kerry, Karla , Johnny & Taylor - I can almost certainly imagine how much pain and hurt Brennan’s passing has brought on each of you - we all feel a large pain as well. I remember when Brennan and how much fun he was, when he came to visit us in Thunder Bay in 1998 or 1999 and he was a beauty. So much fun for all of us. He certainly lacked no confidence and was so outgoing. 😇 I remember how wonderful and kind he was during any / all of my hardships and he knew Uncle “Veal” loved him dearly. Brennan - You and Johnny always called me that. lol. I loved it. I hope he is now looking after or being looked after by our Angels he has up there in Brittany and Grandma Sheila - they are so special to us all. Love you forever Brennan! • I looked after Brennen as a baby, he was so cute and he worked his way in my heart and also Ron's. He was part of our family playing with the our sons and birthday parties. One memory which stands out is all three boys were covered with mud from head to toe. Brennen has always been in my thoughts over the years and more so during the past couple of months. Sending prayers 🙏 and hugs to your family during this very difficult time. - Posted by: Gwen Breland (Babysat) on: Jul 09, 2022
