MARY HRECHKA
(FEDYCK) (nee KORECKI)
January 19, 1935 - July 3, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Mary Hrechka, at the age of 87, on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Red River Extendicare in Selkirk, MB.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed greatly by her children, Debbie (Jim) and Darryl (Marlene), grandchildren, Brooke (Robbie), Taylor (Jason), Terri and Tim (Samantha), great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Onyx-Rose, Nash and Violette, two surviving sisters-in-law, in BC, Val and Mildred, Gerry and Debbie Hrechka of Winnipeg, special family friend Diana and nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her parents and her two brothers, husband John, in 1988 and long time partner of 25 years, Engelbert "Bert" Kuffner in March of 2020.
Mary was born in Shellbrook, SK. She had a pen pal in Selkirk, from her Junior years, ironically, named Mary, who also shared the same birthdate and year of birth as "our Mother."
This helped her make a decision to leave her parents in Saskatchewan as she ventured to Selkirk, MB to pursue a career in Psychiatric Nursing, graduating in 1955. She did her circuit of rounds as a nurse in Selkirk from the Selkirk Mental Hospital, Selkirk General and later retiring from the Tudor House in Selkirk.
She loved Darryl and I dearly and drove countless hours with Darryl and his teammates to ice rinks in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, tagging me along when we were younger.
Mom had a zest for life and a laugh or mischievous giggle which exploded, so everyone knew who it was! Her greatest gifts to life was her love, her honesty and fairness with family and friends which included lots of gift giving.
She was a "people person", a giving and friendly person with a smile that radiated love. Meeting new people was easy for Mom. She loved sharing, spending time with family and friends, and bringing joy to others. She loved people and people loved her! She was "Mom" to all of our friends when we were young.
She thoroughly enjoyed her retirement years with Bert, dining out, travelling around Manitoba and other parts of Canada, and dabbling in different small home-based businesses through which they extended their list of friends even more.
For more fun and excitement the two of them enjoyed the local casinos, the atmosphere, the bling bling, but she also enjoyed wearing that bling bling! They were waiting for that one big spin...like everyone else!
She would have loved to travel more. She was a softie, but tough when needed, not a complainer. She appreciated and was grateful for all opportunities that she had in her life.
MOM, may your new wings allow you to fulfil all your dreams, see the places you wanted to see, and reunite with your friends and relatives again. So keep smiling!
Love you forever Mom!
Until we meet again in the heavens!
A private Celebration of Life will be held with the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a foundation of your choosing.
