ROBERT JAMES BRADE
February 18, 1931 - July 8, 2022

It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather. At 91 years of age, a life truly well-lived.
Dad was born in an era where times were tough, the dirty thirties as they were known. His parents were given a quarter section of land near St. Claude, Manitoba along with a cow, a few chickens, a bag of flour and that's where they built their family home. Dad had many stories to share with us about those times growing up on the farm with his two sisters and brother. As a young man he took on odd jobs wherever he could. He worked cutting trees in East Braintree, checked Box Cars on the trains in Thunder Bay and in the early 1960s, drove Taxi until he was hired on at City Bread where he drove as a Bread and Pastry delivery driver for the next 31 years, retiring at 62.
Dad met, who would become the love of his life, Dolores, in the bustling nightlife of Downtown Winnipeg in the 1970s. They were married in 1976. Dad and mom loved to travel and fondly remembered their many trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas. Although their most treasured holiday times were spent at the Hunter family farm in Gypsumville, MB.
Dad enjoyed socializing with his good buddies over a couple bubblies. Fishing was always a big part of trips to "The Bend" or Fairford, MB. In the later years he enjoyed sitting in the back yard on his deck and gardening. He canned tomatoes and beets which he loved to share with his family and neighbours. We will truly miss his Rhubarb and Strawberry preserve as well as our Sunday dinners that he made for us well into his late 80s.
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Dolores Brade, mother Anne Brade, father Thomas Brade, brother Bill Brade and his two sisters, Daisy Hjorliefson and Doris Lanyon. Dad leaves behind his daughter Karen Storimans (Tim), and grandchildren, Jared Storimans (Destinee), Tyrell Storimans (Andreea), and Brit Brade (Samara), and his much loved great-grandchildren, Marilyn and Ivy along with his precious cats, Puss Puss 1 and Puss Puss 2.
A special thanks to all his wonderful neighbours for offering their assistance with the odd jobs around his home and for their friendship over the years.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or animal shelter of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.

  • Over the past 11 years I got to know Bob pretty well. Sunday dinners were always something to look forward to at Bob's place as he was a great cook making everything from scratch. His chili I am sure could have won some contests. His memory for things always amazed me and if you ever forgot to do something that you told him you would he was quick to remind you. I was fascinated with Bob's stories growing up through the Great Depression and then later years. He had a passion for his two cats and his grandchildren and it was a great source of joy for him. Bob was a genuine, good hearted no nonsense kind of guy with a wit and sense of humour as well. I will miss our talks and Sunday dinners. So thankful I got to know you Bob. - Posted by: Timothy Sullivan (friend) on: Jul 16, 2022
