RICHARD YALLITS
March 26, 1951 - July 8, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother, Uncle and Friend, Richard Yallits, on July 8, 2022 at the young age of 71.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Andrew and Ann Yallits (Washmik) and his sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Harold Denby.
Richard is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Louise, his three children, Joey (Julie), Lisa (Darren) and Michelle (Andrew) as well as his four grandchildren, Taylor, Hudson, Ella and Ava and step-grandchild Walker. He adored his loving family with whom he always shared a special bond.
Richard is also survived by his brother Lawrence (Barb), his nephews, Derrick, Kevin (Theresa), Chris, Stuart and his niece Theresa.
Richard was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and graduated from Elmwood High School. His professional career started at Canada Post where he worked for seven years. He then went on to a successful 28-year career serving as a proud member for the Winnipeg Fire Department. His positions with the fire department included Fire Fighter, Arson Investigator and Fire Prevention Officer. He was a dedicated brother who contributed to many important safety and community projects. He enjoyed his years as a fire fighter playing jokes on his fellow brothers and filling his days off spending time with family and buying and selling anything he could find at an auction. Richard was always willing to lend a hand in his own special way and help anyone who was in need.
Richard spent many summers at West Hawk Lake where he could be found working on the family cabin, enjoying a cold drink in the sun on the deck, sitting around the evening campfires with friends and family in the trailer park or spending hot days chatting and giving his advice to everyone on the beach.
His passion for buying and selling will never be forgotten. If he didn't know you, he always knew someone who did. Richard was always willing to help when needed in any way. There were so many people whose lives were positively touched by Richard.
In Richard's memory we will be sharing stories and enjoying some of his favourite food and drinks during a Celebration of Life at Holy Eucharist Parish Centre, 460 Munroe Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 1K4 on Tuesday, July 19 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • Our Heartful Sympathy goes out to all of you. Was fortunate to meet Richard (PaPa) through being neighbors of Michelle, Andrew, Ella, Ava and Sophie 🐾Had alot of laughs with his dry sense of humor and of course the love for Louise and family. Many days he would be over sharing his knowledge and supervising skills. Overall he just was always there to be with family. We will miss the drive bys and of course the times we enjoyed in the backyard. Rest in Peace Love Jackie, Derwyn, Ryan, Jason and Reno 🐾 - Posted by: Jackie,Derwyn, Jason, Ryan and Reno 🐾 (Family Friend) on: Jul 17, 2022

  • Louise, sending our sincere sympathies to you and your family. Jen and I are so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. I was so fortunate to grow up knowing the both of you and then when Rick joined the Fire Department it provided an opportunity for us all to keep in touch over the years. I always enjoyed our time together. Rick was always such a kind and considerate soul. I know you will miss him terribly and we’ll all miss him. • I was shocked and saddened to hear of Rick's passing. I would see him every now and then at Super Store where we would catch up. My deepest condolences and sympathy to you Louise and family. He will be missed. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is "to be absent from the body is to be with the Lord" Rick's in good hands now. God Bless. - Posted by: ken barnett (Brother Firefighter) on: Jul 16, 2022

  • Our heartful sympathy goes out to all of you. Was fortunate to meet Richard (PaPa) through the Mundy family (Michelle, Andrew, Ella, Ava & Sophie🐾) with them being our neighbors. Had alot of laughs with his dry sense of humor and of course the love ❤️ for Louise and family. Many days he would be over helping or supervising with his knowledgeable skills. Overall he was more just to be with family. Will miss his drive bys and the visits we enjoyed in the backyard. Rest in Peace. • Louise my heart felt condolences go out to you, Joey (Julie), Lisa (Darren) and Michelle (Andrew) as well as, to all of your families today. Please take comfort in knowing, your friends have endearing memories of this wonderful friend, colleague and family man Richard Yallits. Endearing memories they are! I was blessed to have this guy as my first and best buddy while growing up in Elmwood. We lived across the lane from one another. And buddies we became, whether “deep sea” diving for tad poles along water filled rail line ditches or discovering play, “in traffic” in front of our houses. Like many “Boomer Kids” of the 50’s, playing games, of “Pom-Pom Pull Away, hockey (goaltending for Rich), baseball or football, to late hours on the street was the place where first friendships formed. It wasn’t til sundown or a call from mom, usually mom, that the day was done. This is how the two of us spent many hours together growing up. And if your brother, like his bro Lawrence, had a hot rod to work on, well, you were right in there willing to suck up the gas fumes, in the garage, just to be with “the older guys,” dreaming of the day you too would drive! It was years later, that Richard now driving, stopped outside my teaching school to say hi, with that signature cheshire smile no less! Only now he was driving for a “District Chief of The Winnipeg Fire Department!” In subsequent years we attended to one another’s wedding parties. It was an honour to do so for both of us. Louise, I recall how happy Richard was to tell me he was marrying this wonderful woman he had found, to be his life partner! He was beaming about his love for you! Your 47 years together is a testament to your love and commitment to one another and your now extended family. We will all miss Richard Yallits. Rest in Peace dear friend! • So sorry to hear about Richard’s passing. He recently visited my Dad (Marv Huff) who he worked with for many years at his assisted living apartment. What a kind gesture as Marv has a failing memory but Richard spent a lovely afternoon reminiscing about all the good times and old friends they had working together at the fire department, what a kind man to remember and take the time for an old friend. Our condolences to Louise and your family, Richard was a great man and friend to many. - Posted by: Marv Huff (Co worker) on: Jul 16, 2022
