CHERYL G. RUSSELL
September 5, 1950 - July 5, 2022

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Murray; son Brad (Samantha); sister Dawn, nieces, Mandy, Misty and families; brother-in-law Dr. C. Neil Russell (Ellen), niece Kirsten and nephew Collin; sister-in-law Patricia, nephew Don (Terry), niece Sharon and great-nephew Aaron.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Joan and brother Larry.
Cheryl had a 40 plus year career in the IT/Program Management at Great West Life and IBM. Here she forged many friendships including Patti, Aurore and Sue.
Cheryl's three great passions in life were her son Brad, whom she doted on – the sunshine of her life, reading and gardening. She was a voracious reader, never without a couple of books on the go, especially English mysteries. She had an absolute passion for gardening, with her master gardener accreditation. Her flower beds in the front yard were spectacular, giving much delight to the neighbourhood. Cheryl also loved to travel from Nova Scotia to California. She decided for her 60th birthday she wanted to be under the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This started yearly trips to Europe, England and Scotland.
Thank you to Dr. C. Robinson, colleagues and staff at St. Boniface CancerCare for all their care and a special thank you to the nursing staff on 4B for all they did for Cheryl.

  • CGR There was a woman known as CGR, She was so smart we all knew she’d go far. Drank her hot tea, Managed IT, And everywhere she worked she raised the bar. But there’s much more to life than work she said, So as a young woman, Murray she wed. Son Brad made three, That was the key, For all to feel right in our Cheryl’s head. Puppies, landscaping, reading, travelling, These were the things that set her heart to sing. What was the “G”? Never told me! Rummoli and car rallies and laughing … ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dedicated to Cheryl Russell Your friend since 1976, Aurore - Posted by: Aurore Stacker (Friend) on: Jul 21, 2022

  • I had the honour of meeting Cheryl at 19 at the Hudson Bay hair salon It was a relationship that developed over many decades. Once a month. Yes I bet not everyone was that lucky. As said in the obituary, she sure lived for her family Never forget how matter of fact she was when the cottage just basically tipped over and gave in and she was ok with that. Just stuff right. Then tried her hand at farming. No house just a gazebo. And she loved it out there. She always encouraged her kids, yes Sam you were her daughter to go on trips even after she was not able to travel any more. She was one of my favourite clients and I say friend She will be so missed by all who where fortunate enough to know her. - Posted by: Francesca de Grave (Friend ) on: Jul 16, 2022

  • Met Cheryl 44 years ago at my first real job at Gwl. I appreciated her dry sense of humor. Loved beating her at rumoli. Grateful that she took me in when we both lived in Denver. - Posted by: Patti Gilhuly (Longtime friend) on: Jul 16, 2022
