MARIANNA (NINA) MASI
March 18, 1936 - July 22, 2022
With deep sadness, the family of Nina Masi announce her passing on July 22, 2022 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit after a brief illness.
Nina leaves behind her loving children, Joe Masi (Joyce Dalmyn), Mary Mazzei (Gordon Kooper), Rick Masi (Laura), and treasured granddaughter Gabriella Mazzei. As well, she is survived by her sister Angelina Pardi (Nick) of Medicine Hat, AB and her brother Pino Guzzo of Winnipeg, along with sisters-in-law, Rosina Masi of Winnipeg, and Angela Sacco of Vancouver, BC as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nina was predeceased by her husband Saverio Masi, parents, Pasquale and Carmela Guzzo, in-laws, Giuseppe and Maria Masi, brothers-in-law, Tommaso, Antonio, Francesco, Giuseppe and Angelo Masi, Angelo Sacco, and Pietro D'Amico, and sisters-in-law Franca Guzzo, Filomena D'Amico, Rosa, Anna and Maria Masi.
Nina was born in Miglierina, Italy in 1936 and immigrated to Canada in 1955, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax, NS with her good friend Paolina Aiello, and were met by their husbands Saverio and Carmelo. Saverio and Nina settled in Winnipeg and together they bought a house in Transcona and spent many happy years there, raising a family, visiting friends and relatives, and making a better life for themselves and their children. When the children were older, Nina went to work at the Eaton's Warehouse in the stock room, making many good friends while there. After moving from Transcona, Saverio and Nina resided in a condominium in River Heights, where Nina resided until her recent illness. Saverio predeceased her in March 2012 after 57 years of marriage and adventure.
Nina was a people person, she loved her family, relatives and friends. If you lived in her neighbourhood, attended her church, or worked at a business she frequented, you were soon brought into her circle of friends. She would spend considerable time and energy with them, making incredible Italian meals, baking everyone's favourites, having good conversations with them and many fun times. Nina had an amazing ability to connect with people and her phone was constantly in use to ensure everyone she cared for was doing fine. Nina's children and granddaughter meant the world to her, ensuring they always were provided with what they needed, taking great interest in their lives and accomplishments, and always being there as a mother and grandmother. She was always the first to volunteer with baking and a gift for any shower or event. She visited many older relatives ensuring no widow ever felt alone. She was an incredible mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend to all.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate and professional care Nina received in the last months of her life. The family would also like to thank all the incredible relatives and friends of Nina for their wonderful support and kindness both to Nina and to our family during this difficult time. Because Nina had such a wide circle of friends and family, there are too many to thank individually, but know how much you meant to Nina and to our family.
