It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Marion Joan Barker on July 19, 2022 at the age of 84 years.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Douglas (Bei) and Michael (Corinne) and Suzanne, grandchildren, Kassandra, Khloe, Wendy, Adam, Ryan, Grace and Liam, her sisters, Sharon (Cecil) and Margie (Greg) and their children, Leigh, Jan, Graham, Colin and Cade. She was predeceased by her husband Philip Shaw in 2009.
Joan was the eldest daughter of Colin and Marion Barker. She was born in Rossburn, Manitoba in 1938 and lived in Manitoba most of her life.
Joan was a loving mother, grandmother and spouse, enjoying every moment that she could spend with her family. Throughout her life she valued education, earning a degree in Home Economics and a Masters in Business Administration and teaching entrepreneurship at Red River Community College.
She met her husband Philip in Winnipeg and was married for forty years before his passing in 2009.
After her retirement she was able to travel to the Maritimes and to Alaska, both of which she had always wanted to visit. A vibrant and popular member of her retirement community, she painted, played bridge and enjoyed life to the fullest with her schnauzer Emma Jane.
Cremation and a private family burial have taken place. A celebration of Joan's life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the bystanders, paramedics and emergency room team at St. Boniface General Hospital who tried to revive her.
