RAYMOND (RAY) LYLE RITCHIE
(ROCKETMAN)

On Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at South Health Campus, Calgary, Alberta, Ray Ritchie passed away at the age of 78. Ray was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and predeceased by his parents, Jack and Muriel Ritchie (nee Harding) and his sister Bernice Ritchie.
Ray leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Jo-Anne, who he met in high school and married in 1968; his children, Kurt, Brooke, and Drew; and his grandsons, Lucca and Ashton. Family and friends will miss Ray dearly.
Ray graduated from Sisler High School, Winnipeg, where he excelled in football, playing for both the Sisler Spartans and the Hawkeyes. Ray continued to enjoy sports throughout his life, running marathons, playing hockey for North Wood Winnipeg and a passion for golf.
After graduating from Kelm Neufeld Gateson as a CPA, Ray worked for the Canada Revenue Agency for 34 years. His profession took him from Winnipeg to Ottawa (1975 to 1980); to Regina (1980 to 1986 Manager of Special Investigations); and finally to Calgary (1986 to 2006 Manager of Tax Investigations).
Ray enjoyed listening to music (including Elton John, CCR, Queen and Billy Joel); watching movies; travelling abroad; unnecessarily competitive scrabble games; political discussions; and cheering for the New England Patriots. In addition, he loved buying, selling, growing his locally renowned pin collection.
As per his wishes, Ray's remains were donated to the University of Calgary for medical research. No funeral service is scheduled.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Calgary Home Care, the staff at the South Health Campus and Rockyview Hospital for their kind and caring support during his final days.
