JOANNE LILY (NANNY) ROBERTSON
Joanne Lily (Nanny) Robertson, born August 13, 1942, Winnipeg, Manitoba, died May 13, 2022, Ottawa, Ontario.

Throughout Nanny's life, she was dedicated to the community she lived in. In Ottawa, Ontario it was serving pizza and storytelling to children at Convent Glen Elementary School, selling poppies for the local legion around Remembrance Day and fostering rescued dogs. In Mesa, Arizona it was baking bread for neighbours and church fund raisers, as well as delivering community newspapers in the Mesa Spirit RV Resort. Here she adopted her rescued Chihuahua, Beasty, who became her companion till the end.
Retiring with Billy to Nanaimo, BC in the 90s, Nanny and her husband were always helping more senior neighbours with any issues they had, along with baking for local charity events. In Winnipeg, where Nanny spent most of her life, she was President of the Seahawks Water Polo Club and Manitoba Water Polo Association. In the mid 80s, she helped find sponsors and raised money for the National Women's Water Polo Program to enable them to compete in Europe. She was appointed Team Manager for the Tour. In the late 70s and early 80s Nanny organized and taught swimming lessons in her backyard pool to local children. Hundreds of children learned to swim the backyard pool. It was so successful that the Red Cross had her test their newest badge program at the time. Any place that Nanny was she wanted to make a difference in people's lives.
