Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I got to know Richard through the library. What a gentle and humble man. I would see him almost every morning in the lounge where we discussed our faith and books. I wish I had gotten to know him sooner as he was such a wealth of knowledge and a quiet and caring man. - Posted by: Marcel Courchaine (Coworker ) on: Sep 07, 2022

  • Like Richard (I always knew him as Richard, and later even as Richards), I worked in the University of Manitoba Libraries for many years. There I got to know and appreciate Richard. There is much that could be written about his life, but I will limit myself to those of Richard's qualities that stand out. Richard very much marched to the beat of his own drum. This he did with no fanfare whatsoever and my guess is that he was even unaware of the beat. Richard liked to collect certain things, one of which was books. He also liked to share these books. Every time I visited him he presented me with some of his literary findings that he had, knowing my interests, set aside for me. Richard read a lot, both books and newspapers. He could also remember what he read. there were not many topics (except maybe scientific ones) about which he did not have some knowledge. He was slow to express this knowledge, but, when he spoke, his words merited attention. In recent years, Richard's mobility was greatly hampered by issues with his feet. It became increasingly difficult for him to walk. Still, he went out every day using a walker and public transit. Richard never discussed his physical problems. It is almost as though they were peripheral to his life. Maybe one could say that Richard Krumins lived 'under the radar'. Certainly he lived very simply. I think that he was satisfied with his life, although this perhaps never crossed his mind. He was a good friend. - Posted by: Richard Ellis (Friend) on: Aug 24, 2022
