WILLIAM ALBERT EMPKE
1936 - 2022
On August 13, 2022, William (Bill) Albert Empke, peacefully passed away at home, at the age of 86 years.
Bill was born in Barrie, Ontario, the only child of Bert and Wyn Empke. Bill attended Barrie Central Collegiate and the University of Toronto, Trinity College. He later attained his MPA from Dalhousie University in Halifax.
Bill entered the federal civil service and served in various senior executive positions in Ottawa, Toronto and Halifax. His final posting was in Winnipeg where he was Regional Director of Consumers and Corporate affairs.
He was never happier than when he was watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He was a lover of books, especially those dealing with the American Civil War. He loved to travel especially through the United States visiting historical sites including many battlefields.
It was a sad day when Bill played his last game at Niakwa Golf and Country Club.
Bill had a very dry sense of humour which remained intact until the very end. The music of Gershwin, Cole Porter and Big Bands of the 1940s gave him solace as did the views from his kitchen window of the Seine and its wildlife.
Bill will be deeply missed by his partner of 20 years, Jennifer King and her family, together with his daughter Fiona Empke (Jim) and his son Colin Empke (Marg); as well as six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A small family service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society, or to a charity of their choice.

Very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I always enjoyed Bill's company, I played a lot of golf with him when I was a young guy playing with my grandfather. I don't know how many rounds he must have played with my grandfather. I'm sure my grandfather never thanked Bill for keeping an eye on his ball for all those years, but he definitely was owed one. We will all miss Bill, he was a true gentleman. - Posted by: Terry J (Family Friend) on: Aug 24, 2022

I was saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. He was my manager at Consumer and Corporate Affairs and I learned so much from him. But he was also my friend and I was so glad to see that he had very happily settled down in Winnipeg. My thoughts are with Jennifer and his entire family. - Posted by: Jeanne Todoruk (Co-Worker / Friend) on: Aug 21, 2022
