BRENT KEITH TAGGART
August 16, 1965 - August 21, 2022

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Brent Keith Taggart in Toronto on Sunday, August 21, 2022 after a brief and sudden illness.
He is survived by his loving wife Jenifer Booth; his parents, Beverley and Errol of Winnipeg; his sister Marnie, her partner Stephen Bitzer and nephew Tate Fleming of Calgary; parents-in-law, Brenda and Bob Lock of Innisfail, Ontario; and brother-in-law Nick Booth and his partner Kevin Guertin of Ottawa. He will be also greatly missed by his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins and many dear friends.
Brent grew up in the neighbourhood of Fort Richmond in Winnipeg and is a graduate of Fort Richmond Collegiate and the University of Manitoba. For the past 30 years he resided in Toronto where he pursued a marketing career in the music industry beginning with HMV, then Sony Music, and most recently Anthem Entertainment. An excellent partnership, Brent and Jen would celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary this fall and had a life filled with friends, family, pets and laughter.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Toronto in the near future.

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • I’m so sad to hear this is a great loss. I worked with Brent on many occasions at HMV , he was an amazing man and a true friend to Mark and myself. Sending strength and prayers to his wife frankly and friends. - Posted by: Crystal hunt (Co worker friend) on: Sep 29, 2022

  • Bev and Errol, my heart hurts every day over the loss of Brent. I am comforted in the knowledge that Brent and Jen have wonderful friends who helped them with this journey. Thank you everyone and God bless. - Posted by: BRENDA LOCK (Mother-in law) on: Sep 24, 2022

  • I worked with Brent at the HMV Superstore in the late 90s as a Marketing Supervisor - in what still to this day remains the most fun job I have ever held. Brent was a wonderful manager and mentor who empowered me to take the lead in building and nurturing relationships with the label reps we dealt with, as well as in planning and executing our many in-store events. I learned so much about responsibility, accountability, and negotiation during this time and now, much more experienced in the working world, I realize that his hands-off approach (while always being there with guidance and support when I needed it) was a demonstration of excellent leadership. Brent trusted me as I trusted him and I had nothing but respect for him. He had a wry sense of humour, excellent taste in music, and he was generous: I remember fondly the many times he'd call me into his (very blue) office to present me with a promotional copy of the latest CD or boxset that he knew I'd had my heart set on. Needless to say, I am so saddened by Brent's passing and he has been in my thoughts every day since I heard the sad news. My deepest condolences to his family and all who loved him. - Posted by: April Robinson (Former Colleague) on: Sep 20, 2022

  • I am so shocked and saddened by the news of Brent's passing. Brent and I worked together for many years at HMV. I first met Brent at the HMV Square One store where he was the manager and then we both went on to work at the HMV 333 Yonge store. Brent was a great person to work with, he was passionate about music, always had a good sense of humour and respected the people he worked with. Brent will always be fondly remembered by so many people who worked with him in the music industry. My condolences to his family and friends, he will be greatly missed. :( - Posted by: Deborah Barton (Friend) on: Sep 09, 2022

  • The first time I met Brent he was introduced to me as my new manager at HMV Square One. We became fast friends and enjoyed many late nights listening to live music, I think about those times often and can’t help but smile. Brent was a fantastic guy, he was generous, caring with a great sense of humour. Always in my heart Manny - Posted by: Manny O’Sullivan (Friend) on: Sep 05, 2022

  • I'm deeply shocked by Brent's passing. He was Buying Manager at HMV 333 so worked for years together as I was the Metal Buyer. He was a driven and passionate man. Music was his life. He was a big BraveWords supporter from the early days of the magazine. And that would continue when he went to Sony and then Anthem. It was just few weeks ago we were contesting a Rush/Moving Pictures box set for the site! So this is a very sad time for Canadian Music. You will be terribly missed. Deepest condolences to family and friends. :( - Posted by: "Metal" Tim Henderson (Friend) on: Aug 31, 2022

  • Dear Taggart Family, It was with real sadness that I heard of Brent's passing. My relationship with Brent was while he was in Winnipeg, but I would pop in on him when I was coming through Toronto from time to time. My memories of Brent are when we would be of golfing, curling or cavorting at various events and establishments. Brent always kept the group in focus and with his superb expressions kept things very funny. I wish you all of my and the many 'Buds' that Brent has in Winnipeg our deepest condolences. • I had the privilege of working with Brent during his years at HMV. I worked at Universal Music and he was one of my favourite clients. He was always fair, kind and kept a great demeanour. And boy was it great to take him out golfing!! No matter how long a gap in time between seeing each other, it was so easy to fall back into a great conversation. My deepest sympathies to his family. - Posted by: Iain Taylor (Business ) on: Aug 25, 2022

  • Dear Mr & Mrs Taggart, My name is Diane Lauzon. I was a maid of honour when Brent & Crysta got married. Though Brent and Cryta’s marriage did not last, I always remained friends with Brent. I knew Jen when she worked across the street from Chum radio which is where I worked after I finished at HMV Canada. I always knew Brent to be friendly and kind. I am so sorry for your loss. No parent should have to go through what you’re going through right now. I am so sorry for your loss and I am writing to offer my sincerest condolences. Brent was definitely one of the good guys and he will be surely missed. Sincerely, Diane Lauzon - Posted by: Diane Lauzon (Friend ) on: Aug 25, 2022

  • I worked with Brent's Mom at CIBC and we always had chats about our family. She always was so proud of his endeavours and was so proud to have him as her son. To Bev and Errol and family I send my deepest condolences. Janis Giesbrecht - Posted by: Janis giesbrecht (Friend) on: Aug 25, 2022
