EDWARDS: In the presence of family, our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Howard Russell Edwards, passed away peacefully on July 30th, 2022, at the Brandon Health Center. He was 89 years old. Howard was born March 22, 1933, to James and Jessie Edwards. He had four older siblings: brother Elvin (Florence) and three sisters Irene (Reg) Williams, Jean (Bruce) Griffith, and Elsie (Gordon) Reekie. He was raised on the family farm just west of Medora, attending school, playing sports and helping on the farm. On April 23, 1952, he married our mom, Frances Nestibo, the youngest child of John and Sophia Nestibo, celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary earlier this year. They started out on a farm just east of Goodlands and then moved into the village a few years later. Dad and Mom raised seven children all born just short of ten years. Sadness hit in 1956 when James John (Jimmy) passed away from pneumonia at the age of 8 months. In 1969 the family moved to Deloraine, house and all, where they had bought a farm machinery dealership a few years earlier. Dad also had a General Motors dealership and continued to a farm as well. He always wore a white shirt and tie so when called to the field, that is what he crawled under the combine or tractor in. Our youngest brother Brad joined Dad at the business, and eventually Dad retired. Dad loved Deloraine and enjoyed being on council for many years. He enjoyed fishing, flying (pilot), watching ball and hockey. He especially loved watching anything his grandchildren were involved in. Dad enjoyed good health right up until this past year when he lost a lot of mobility. He always remained happy and positive. Dad is lovingly remembered by his wife Frances, and six children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Diane Hainsworth (Angie and Dwane Brosseau: Hudson and Callum); Duane and Anne (Erica, James, and Landon); Donna and Clark Tweed (Jeremi and Carrie Tweed: Delani, Camryn, Kinlee, and Maven; Robyn and Rolly Richard: Quinlan, Liam, Autumn, and Taiya); Jack and Claudene (Caryn Waldon and Jeff: Sophia; Jeff and Ellary; Marc and Paige); Philip and Michelle (Conner and Trisha; Madison; Carlee and Mike; Kenzie and Tanner); Bradley and Jenie (Geoff: Eden; Jamie-Lynn and Jess Leadbeater: Mackayla, Sawyer, and Brynn; and Gerald Domondon). He was predeceased by his son Jimmy, daughter-in-law Bambi, grandson Mitchell, grandson-in-law Bryce, granddaughter-in- law Kahyun, great grandson Baxston, his parents, parents-in-law, and all his siblings and all his in-laws. Howard's favourite things were family gatherings, phoning his kids, nephews and nieces daily, visiting friends and roast beef dinners. He believed an act of kindness could certainly make one feel better. He was always doing this for any newcomer to Deloraine, or anyone else who needed help and he did not like to be recognized for this. He loved to make people smile. We would sincerely like to thank his home care providers Charles and Maria, all his doctors, and all the nursing staff on the 3rd floor of Assiniboine Center. They went above and beyond for him and we as a family appreciated that very much. There truly are angels among us!! We will miss you Dad, so very much, but we know we will meet again.
