JOYCE FRY
April 24, 1932 August 9, 2022
Joyce died peacefully Tuesday, August 9 with her three children present.
Predeceased by her parents, Jessie Elizabeth and William John (Jack) Porter, brother John, beloved daughter Michelle Anne, husband Charles (Chuck) Henry Fry. Left to celebrate her life and mourn her loss - daughter Kelley (Connor and Evan), son Cameron and Gail (Andrea, Corrina, Simone), son Jason and Michelle (Megan and Lucas), sister-in-law Doreen Porter, beloved childhood friend Mel (Beryl) Parsons and long-time friend, Renee Whitehead.
Joyce was devoted to her children and seven grandchildren. She said they were the loves of her life and those of whom she was most proud.
Born and raised in Southampton, England, Joyce studied Drafting. She crossed the pond in 1953 to visit relatives in Saskatchewan and to begin a new adventure. Here, she met not only her future husband, Chuck, but a group of fellow 'Limeys' who would become lifelong friends.
Chuck and Joyce married in 1955. Both loved the theatre and were involved with the Regina Little Theatre and Joyce was a founding member of the Regina Little Theatre for Children.
The family moved to Winnipeg in 1967. Joyce volunteered her time to Arthritis Society of Manitoba and other organizations, before joining Central Park Lodge (now Poseidon) as their Director of Recreation, in 1974. In her 22-year career, Joyce helped pioneer and develop a new certification program in her field at Red River Community College as well as teaching there until her retirement in 1997.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life sometime in the future. Joyce wished to include this poem with her obituary.
To Those Whom I Love and Those Who Love Me By Christina Rosetti
When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.
I gave you my love, and you can only guess How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown, But now it is time I traveled on alone.
So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me,
I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear, All my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and a
Welcome Home'.

I was greatly saddened to hear of Joyce's passing today. Joyce and I worked together for over 17 years at CPL (Poseidon). She was so very kind, and loved her residents and staff. The last time I saw Joyce was back in 2017 at Lions Place, in the elevator of all places. She looked happy and healthy. My sincere condolences to you all. My sincere condolences on the passing of Joyce. I remember Chuck from when I was just a little girl. He and Joyce were friends of my mom and dad, Ludwig (Lui) and Maxine Berg. Coincidentally, I am currently working on the archives for Regina Little Theatre where I have found Charles (Chuck) and Joyce mentioned in the 1950's. I also remember as a little girl hearing about the passing of their daughter, although I thought her name was Tina. Again, my condolences on Joyce's passing. It might be nice to know that someone from her distant past was just thinking about her! - Posted by: Nora Berg (Daughter of a family friend) on: Jan 06, 2023
