ALEXIS EVELYN KETER
May 7, 1981 - August 31, 2021

Five foot two, hazel eyes, chestnut hair, a petite dynamo. Voracious reader, intense and quixotic thinker, spirited conversationalist, nature and animal lover, affectionate daughter, warm friend.

Alexis was predeceased by her brother, Noah Samuel Keter in 2003, by her maternal and paternal grandparents: Verna Walsh (2004); John Michael O'Donnell Walsh (2007); George Keter Sr. (2007); and Jessie Keter (2012). Alexis is survived by her parents, Elinor and George Keter. She leaves behind many who will miss her vibrancy and who will remember her with warmth.
Alexis attended elementary school in Campbell River, BC, where she was born, and Robert H. Smith Elementary School in River Heights, Winnipeg. She attended Kelvin High School, as well as the University of Winnipeg. Graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (2006), Alexis also earned a Bachelor of Education in 2019, certifying as a high school teacher. Alexis studied piano formally within the Royal Conservatory of Music, achieving her Grade 10 Piano. She loved actively listening to music in her free time.

Possessing a strong belief in social justice issues, Alexis chose to work in a variety of demanding settings with adolescents and others. Throughout her adult life, Alexis also worked in the restaurant industry as a server. She loved the social contact and happy atmosphere. Alexis felt that such evenings could truly sparkle for people, and she enjoyed contributing to those experiences.

Friendship was important to Alexis; she enjoyed going out with the people close to her, no matter how tiring a work day she may have had. In contrast, Alexis often cocooned at home reading, staying up to all hours to finish her book. She had pursued quiet, creative activities like origami and before her death, taken up decoupage.

Alexis possessed a stunning memory. A small example is provided by her lifelong ability to recite the full six stanzas of William Blake's poem, The Tyger. Thinking of Alexis:

Tyger, tyger, burning bright
In the forest of the night
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?
. . . .
Rest in Peace, beloved Alexis.

  • Alexis was a great person. I had the pleasure of knowing her in Junior High and High School, where we became friends. Although we lost touch after high school, I'm happy to read that she pursued her dreams before her passing. RIP Alexis!! - Posted by: Karen Kilpatrick (Asgeirson) (Friend) on: Aug 27, 2022
