SHARON ROSALIE MULVENNY
(nee PORTE)
September 7, 1942- August 22, 2022
Peacefully, two weeks prior to her 80th birthday, Sharon Rosalie left this world to join her son Barry Shaun Mulvenny and parents, Ida and Albert Porte. Sharon was also predeceased by her brother Archie Porte, sister Joyce Chapdelaine, brothers-in-law, Abe Suderman, Amy Chapdelaine, Calvin Peppler, Ray Mulvenny, Lloyd Rumsey and Gary MacDonald, and sisters-in-law, Marie MacDonald, Doreen Mulvenny and Violet Rumsey.
Left to mourn her passing is her loving husband of 59 years, Barry G. Mulvenny; daughters, Maureen (Dave) Wright and Shannon (Russell) Govereau, grandchildren, Katelyn, Kayley, Jenny (Daniel), Christal (Rocky), Russell, Jessica (Jaymes), Kieran, and Brandon (Hristina). She also leaves behind three great- grandchildren with two more on the way; her sisters, Faye Suderman and Audrey Peppler, sister-in-law Alice Porte and many, many nieces and nephews.
Sharon was born in Winkler and was raised in Plum Coulee, MB. Sharon and Barry met as children when Barry's family moved to Plum Coulee while he was in elementary school. In school he often tormented her by powdering her face with chalk brushes and sticking thorns in her desk drawer handle. The tormenter soon turned into a handsome teen though and Sharon made frequent trips to the local curling rink until she caught his eye. They started dating at 14 years old and were together from then on.
Sharon and Barry were married July 6, 1963. Now living in Winnipeg, Sharon started working at MTS in the drafting department until she got pregnant with Maureen in 1967.
From then on Sharon stayed at home as a mother and housewife and raised her three children until the late 1970s when she started working for the Victoria Curling Club as Manager. Many neighbourhood kids can attest that Sharon was well known for her chocolate chip cookies and was a great fixture in the neighbourhood, particularly Laurentia Bay. Her job at the curling club was the perfect fit for her as a lot of it involved working from home so she could still be there for her children as they grew. When the grandchildren starting coming Sharon didn't miss a beat and spent a lot of time with them also. She spent many years picking the grandkids up from school when sick, taking them to doctors appointments and their extracurricular activities when needed as their parents worked full-time.
Sharon spent 18 years of her retirement being a Snowbird and flying out to Puerto Vallarta for winters. Many great memories were made there with family and friends. She also spent many summers at Lester Beach, her favourite place, in her lakefront cottage.
In Sharon's late 60s she developed Alzheimer's and courageously fought the disease for over a decade before becoming tired on August 22, 2022.
She will be greatly missed and forever loved by her family.
Special thanks to the staff at Park Manor for the excellent care they provided Sharon for the past three and a half years. Instead of flowers, please consider making a donation to this great nonprofit facility at https://parkmanor.ca/donate/ in her memory.
We will be having a celebration of her life at a later date and will ensure we let her friends and family know so they can join us.
