• Herbert Ryan was my direct supervisor when he was working in Trade and Markets Division of FAO in Rome. He recruited me when my post was cut. I will never forget his recognition and appreciation of my working experience and knowledge he showed at interview. He was such a wonderful supervisor and elder in my FAO life. I appreciated very much his such a positive and excellent assessment on my work and my relationship with other colleagues in FAO/UN environment. With his Canadian wisdoms he taught me how to view the world and human being. It is a pity that we were only working together for less than 2 years and he retired then. We still kept good contacts after his retirement and had coffee together sometimes in FAO and I was happy to buy perfumes from FAO Commissary for him, as he used them as Christmas gifts for his nieces and nephews. He told me that he would move to live in Sicilia with his girl friend. That was my last meeting with him. I got to know that he passed away through recent online search and was very sad. I hope that I could send my sincere condolence through this message to his girl friend, I assume that she remembers me, a Chinese lady (she once had dinner with Herbert Ryan at my home).
