JOANNE HUSIAK

It is with sorrow that we announce that Joanne, our Mumsy and Baba, passed away in her sleep on August 24, 2022 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.
Mom will be missed by her children Tanya (Kevin) and Jason, and her beloved granddaughter Marisa (Dustin). Mom was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Husiak and her parents Lena and John Zelenewich.
A north end girl, mom went to school at Sisler High School. Shortly after graduating she worked at Lee Burn where she met dad and soon after they were married in 1962. After finding their dream home in East Kildonan, mom and dad settled in to raise Tanya and Jason, and eventually played a big part in raising their granddaughter, Marisa. Mom loved to cook and collect cookbooks, handbags and crystal, and take care of family pets Scamp and Pepsi. She loved her home, her flower beds, and all the neighbours she and dad made close friendships with. Mom would return to work outside the home for several years at the River East School Division.
Mom frequently spoke of her parents, uncles and aunts, and life in Winnipeg in the 50s and 60s. She loved to look at old photos and even had a painting of her Baba's summer home in rural Manitoba that her dad built.
She also was very fond of her excursions with her friends and frequently spoke of lunches and coffees with them. Mom liked to keep in touch with family members and frequently spoke to old neighbours and friends. Their visits and conversations especially picked her up her spirits.
The family would like to thank St. Boniface and Seven Oaks Hospital staff for their care and compassion towards mom.
Mom's ashes, along with Dad's, will be interred at All Saints Cemetery as per her wishes.

Mumsy may you find ever lasting peace and love with Dad in heaven.

  • I am both shocked and saddened to read of Joanne's passing. Joanne would stop by my classroom at school and we would have long and dear chats over very many years.Joanne and Gerri became very dear friends to me as there was no differentiation between my job and theirs. We met on the same level and exchanged our deepest thoughts. May She and Lawrence be together in good health and happiness once again. - Posted by: Lana Storey (former colleague at Ecole neil Campbell School) on: Sep 10, 2022

  • Our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Joanne. Lawrence and Joanne were friends of ours for many years. We enjoyed lunches and coffee dates with them and then continued with Joanne after Lawrence's passing. She loved her children and often spoke proudly of them. Marisa was her pride and joy and called us when she was promoted at work to assistant manager. As a proud Baba she had the right. We will remember Joanne as a kInd, soft spoken, selfless lady. Mom and Pat also send their condolences. - Posted by: Diane and Jerry Chernecki (Friends) on: Sep 03, 2022
