DOUGLAS JOHN PENNER
1968 - 2022

With deep sadness we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Douglas on August 15, 2022 in Sofia, Bulgaria, while on a family vacation. Douglas went to be with his Lord and Saviour at the age of 54 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Judith (Suderman) Penner. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Tricia (Swift) and three daughters, Madeline, Avery and Leah. He is also survived by three brothers, Paul (Elizabeth), Brent (Hong) and Nathan, two sisters, Alanda (Glenn) Penner, Nadine (Robert) Herda, his parents-in-law, Ron and Terry Swift, sister-in-law, Tracy (Derek) Dreger and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Douglas was born in Winnipeg. He grew up in the North Kildonan area where he attended Maple Leaf and Emerson Elementary Schools, John Pritchard and River East Collegiate. He attended the University of Manitoba where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. Douglas' career as a pharmacist included several jobs, including Tache Pharmacy, CancerCare Manitoba and Cangene Corporation. He started his own business, Alentex Pharmacy, which he successfully grew and managed for many years. This pharmacy was eventually sold and is now Medisystem Pharmacy in Winnipeg, where Douglas continued to work. Douglas' outstanding knowledge, personable and friendly personality, unforgettable humour, kindness and innovative ideas made him highly respected and truly liked by all of his many colleagues and patients.
Douglas married Tricia (Swift), whom he met at university, on October 3, 1998. They built a home in East St. Paul and have three daughters, Madeline (17), Avery (15) and Leah (12). Douglas was a selfless, dedicated and loving husband and father, who brought joy and laughter to every day. He enjoyed travelling and we would look forward to our annual family European summer vacation. Douglas was an expert travel planner and always had every detail extensively planned.
Douglas was a man of unfaltering faith, humility, devotion, and strong conviction, from whom his family and friends experienced many blessings.
A memorial service will be held at Providence Reformed Church, 2615 Henderson Highway, East St. Paul, MB at 11:00 a.m., September 10, 2022. A private family interment will be held at the Manitou Cemetery, Manitou, MB.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Ligonier Ministries, www.ligonier.org.

I will love You, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress
and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation,
my stronghold.
I will call upon the Lord, who is
worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.

  • I was a physician that worked with Doug at a personal care home. He was always an amazing person to work with but more so as an amazing friend and mentor. He always had an even and generous personality and could speak about any subject intelligently. He was a warm person and had a great sense of humour. He made the morning medication rounds go so smoothly no matter what was going on. An intelligent, kind, generous man of faith that will be sorely missed. - Posted by: Robert Zoppa (Colleague) on: Sep 06, 2022

  • So shocked and very saddened to read of Doug’s passing. It was always a pleasure to see him at our dental clinic and the pharmacy downstairs in our building. A true professional in every way.
