DARLENE CAROL WOJCIK
It is with deep sadness that we announce Darlene's passing on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at St. Boniface Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Kyle (Laura); her sister Barbara (Fred); as well as many extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Edward.
Darlene was born April 27, 1952 in Winnipeg to William and Jean Slym. Darlene retired after a long and rewarding career with the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Department. One of her highlights included designing a mascot affectionately known as the Munchkin for the Winnipeg Junior Winter Games. Darlene was one of the most kind, selfless and strong people you could ever meet. She enjoyed reading, gardening, baking and visiting with her 'granddog' Loki. Darlene had a quiet strength that allowed her to endure many health challenges throughout her life before suddenly passing from complications of a heart attack earlier this summer.
A special thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Deer Lodge, Grace Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion to our family.
Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of her life will be held at her home later this fall.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Scleroderma Canada or a charity of your choice.

My heartfelt condolences to Kyle and his family. Your mom will be dearly missed. I first met Darlene early on in our working careers, and we quickly became fast friends. We shared many experiences, fun times, and endless laughs, that spanned the course of a few decades, and lasted well beyond our retirement years. I will miss my friend, and remember her always. - Posted by: Maryanne Peters (Friend) on: Sep 14, 2022

Sorry to hear of your passing, had many memories of conversations regarding work and personnel issues. You were a wealth of information in your roll in HR with the City of Winnipeg. May you rest in eternal peace. - Posted by: Fernando Requeima (Co Worker City of Winnipeg) on: Sep 07, 2022

We were neighbours and then friends of the Wojcik family for the 20 years we lived in Winnipeg. Darlene was a kind, caring person who took on life’s challenges head on. She was a great Mom to son, Kyle, and will be missed by all who knew her. We are so sorry for your loss Kyle and are thinking of you at this time. It was with great shock and sadness to hear that Darlene has passed away. It has been sad that COVID hadn't allowed us to visit when I come back to Winnipeg for Christmas. Darlene and I were room-mates when we were about 20 years old. We lived in St. James then moved our separate ways when we got broken into. We've been friends since high school. My condolences to Kyle (godson) and the rest of the family. RIP - Posted by: Terese Truchan (friend) on: Sep 03, 2022
