MATTHEW MICHAEL SHINDAK


It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on September 5, 2022, at the Gimli Betel Home Foundation, at the age of 85.
Matt was born November 21, 1936 in Silver Creek, Manitoba. Matt was predeceased by his parents, Michael Shindak and Antonia (nee Wylychenko), siblings, Paul, Jack, Nick, Helen Faery, Anne Ford, Billy.
Matt will be lovingly remembered and cherished by his loving wife of 60 years, Geraldine (nee Walterson) and children, Michael (Christine Caron), James, Douglas (Nadine Gosselin) and Angela; his grandchildren, Trevor (Mery Ann Sumampong), Brayden, Kristian, Keagan, Matthew, Naomi, Noah, Brenna, Braeden and great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Maverick, Levi, Griffin, brother Henry (Anita Suddaby), sister-in-law Phyllis Stattin and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Matthew had retired from the Charleswood School Board and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the family cottage in Winnipeg Beach. Matt enjoyed fishing, golfing, meat draws and had a passion for gardening. He was known to be quite the dancer, enjoyed listening to polka hour and playing spoons.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. The service will be livestreamed via a link provided on his obituary on the Gilbart Funeral Home website. A Celebration of Life in Matt's honour and interment will be held at a later date.
