BASTIAAN (BOB) NIEUWKERK

Bastiaan (Bob) Nieuwkerk, 91, of Selkirk, Manitoba passed away on the morning of Sunday, September 4, 2022.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Johanna Catharina Nieuwkerk; sons, Bastiaan and Richard Nieuwkerk; grandchildren, Alexis and Coby Nieuwkerk.
Bob was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on August 15, 1931. He met Johanna in 1947 and they spent the next eight years together travelling through Europe on their motorcycle and spending time with family. They married and decided to move to Canada in 1955, where they welcomed their sons in 1957 and 1959. Bob and his family settled in Selkirk where he and his friend opened Daerwood Motors, an automotive garage, which he ran and worked as a mechanic.
Bob enjoyed years of camping in the Big Whiteshell with his family and friends. During his retirement, he loved to spend time with family, restoring his classic GTO convertible and building remote control airplanes which he flew for many years as part of the Saints RC flying club.
He will be remembered by his loved ones and friends for his sense of humour, and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
