IRENE JOAN FOSTER
(nee MACGARVA)
January 11, 1930 - September 7, 2022
Peacefully, surrounded by love - at home on the farm in Clandeboye - our Mum left quietly in her sleep. She had told us that her time was coming, that she was ready. Mum was rarely mistaken. If she was, it was best not to dwell on it.
Mum will join our dad, Garth Foster who passed in 2012. She is the last of eight MacGarva siblings to exit this world. Left behind are a large prodigy perhaps not all prodigious, however we were raised to think smart. We are Laura (Greg McCombe), Barbara (Bruce Nicoll), Sandra (Gerry Hansma), Debra (Art Preachuk), Garvin (Lillia Foster), Flora-Lea (Dean Clarke passed 2014). There are ten grandchildren, James Kitchen, Ruth Pardoski, Andrea Munz, Landrew Nicoll, Cameron Nicoll, Pamela Sumner, Steven Preachuk, Erin Kirby, Garrett Clarke, and Kaitlyn Clarke plus the gift of their significant others who have helped create 17 ½ great-grandchildren (one due soon).
Mum will be honoured with a celebration of her (truly amazing) life just as she has directed us to do. We welcome you to join us on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. in Clandeboye Hall in the village of Clandeboye, MB. There will be a private interment witnessed by family in the United Church cemetery (where Mum was warden), following the formal celebration. We hope Mum is not late. Dad always claimed that she would be!
Condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
Gilbart Funeral Home,
Selkirk in care of arrangements.

Mrs. Foster was a wonderful lady. She taught me in 4-H. Was always around to talk to. Just one really good neighbour. R.I.P. Mrs Foster. She will be missed in the community - Posted by: Lois mcdonald (Neighbour growing up, teacher in 4-H ) on: Sep 17, 2022

Such a kind, wonderful and strong woman. I grew up with many of her grandchildren and so knew her as their grandmother, but maybe more so as a fixture of the community and its spirit. It was rare to visit Clandeboye for any function that she wasn't part of in some way and enjoying the experience. She always went out of her way to stop and say hi and to ask me something about my life, no matter how long it had been since we last crossed paths. I know our family will have fond memories of her. Visits to church surely won't seem quite the same. Condolences to all those who knew and loved her. - Posted by: Mandy Laing (Family Friend / Community) on: Sep 16, 2022

We were very saddened to hear about the loss of Irene. She was such a wonderful woman and an icon to our community. Toni has many great memories as a child of spending time with the Foster family. Irene will be missed but never forgotten. She truly left her mark on our little community. With sympathy and much love. I had the privilege and joy of working with Irene at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in the late 80s. She was generous to a fault, unfailingly calm (no one could defuse the ire of a ballet mom like Irene), and inherently wise ("You will never regret doing the right thing."). But above all, the most important thing in her life was family. Irene was so proud of her children and their families, and her love for Garth was boundless. She was an inspiration, and I will always be grateful to have known her. May her memory be a blessing always. - Posted by: Joan Stephens (Friend/colleague ) on: Sep 10, 2022
