One summer my parents and I were on a camping trip out to BC and we stopped to visit and spend the night at Berna and Ernie's cottage on Pelican Lake. Berna took me out on the lake and taught me how to kayak. After a nice dinner, she taught me how how to play the real mahjong. When we were packing up to leave, I took a great picture of Berna and Ernie. They appear to be almost the same height because Ernie was standing on a little retaining wall, only you can't see that in the photo. They both have these wonderful smiles on (In keeping with Berna's humour...maybe they were glad to see us go haha). I cherish that photo. I can always hear Berna's voice in my head when I think about her volunteer work, reading books aloud to audiotape. My condolences to all who loved her. - Posted by: Donna Maybury (Niece) on: Sep 18, 2022

To Ernie and Family - accept our deepest sympathy on your loss. We will always remember Berna's quick wit and sense of humour, she had a beautiful spirit and was always fun to be around. - Posted by: Stan & Helen (Friends) on: Sep 16, 2022

I am very sorry to hear of Berna passing away. My condolences to you Ernie, Diana, Ron, Rick and families. Berna and I had many good chats over the past few months. What I most remembered was her infectious laugh and time spent at field and crossing over the Sturgeon river using the one and only swinging bridge. - Posted by: Eileen (Sister in law) on: Sep 15, 2022

Remembering Berna as a lovely, intelligent friend I first knew from our Thompson days. Berna was clever, enjoyed a laugh and was always interested in others. Heartfelt condolences to Ernie and family, Carol Soble - Posted by: Carol Soble (Friend) on: Sep 15, 2022

I am so sorry to hear that Berna had passed away. I have so many good memories of her. Our trip, by car to Horseshoe Valley is a great memory. I feel that I really got to know her then. We had great conversations about our lives and families and times in Britain. Our Friday bridge and lunch games with Eva and Wilma, and later with Binky were so much fun. Berna was so generous to have us at her cottage for bridge, golf, hikes and great food. My condolences to Ernie and family at this sad time. Joan - Posted by: Joan Walton (Friend) on: Sep 13, 2022

As I read the notice of Berna's death, I was remembering a Christmas gift exchange in Thompson and how I ended up receiving three beautiful tatted snowflake ornaments. I lost contact with Berna after leaving Thompson, but those ornaments she made were treasured and have hung on our family Christmas tree for years. - Posted by: Ann Harwood (Thompson community) on: Sep 13, 2022
