1932 - 2022

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father Robert (Bob) Walter Manning on Wednesday August 31, 2022. He passed peacefully in his sleep at Deer Lodge, in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of eighty-nine.
Bob, a veteran of the Second World War, was predeceased by his loving wife Denise, and his siblings, Joy (Bill) and Lloyd (Bud) (Sheila); and is survived by his sister Marguerite (Ken); and his children: Lee (Pat/Ani; Tessa, Katie, Ari, Adalie, Grace), Barbara (Rick; Devon), Glen (Margaret; Ayla, John, Adam), and Lisa (Jordi; Alex).
Bob was an incredible person and wonderful father, blessed with a mischievous sense of humour, countless stories, and a laid-back charm that made him easy to spend time with. He managed to maintain this positive attitude in spite of having years of health setbacks. Bob was naturally artistic, and applied his creativity to his many years leading the display departments at both the Bay and SAAN store. He loved spending time at the cabin in Killarney with Denise, listening to music, and playing golf. After he retired, his attention turned to honing his wood carving skills and attending weekly aquacise sessions with friends at the Rady Fitness Centre. In his final years at Deer Lodge, he spent many happy hours by the pond and in the gardens and enjoyed participating in the weekly activities and shooting the breeze with patients and staff who all appreciated his bright smile, quick wit and optimistic outlook. We will miss him greatly.
Services for Bob will be held so friends and family can gather to celebrate his life at a later date.
The family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the caring and dedicated people at Deer Lodge Centre Lodge 7 and the WRHA's PRIME homecare programs.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to The Salvation Army.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Oh Boy…some fun times on Blackberry Bay. And twice had the opportunity in Peachland to spend overnight on their way through to Osoyoos. Our health also deteriorating but memories with the Mannings are vivid. Condolences to all their family. Iris and Dennis - Posted by: Iris and Dennis Scott (Friends) on: Sep 19, 2022

  • Whenever the Ottawa crew was out in Winnipeg or when Uncle Bob and Aunt Denise visited us, we always had so many good talks and laughs. Uncle Bob graciously acted as our tour guide and chauffeur on our visits. We were fortunate to see Bob last December and although his health was failing he still had that twinkle in his eye. Condolences to Lee, Barb, Glen and Lisa from Uncle Brian, Keely, Scott, Kendel, Kieryn and Taya - Posted by: Keely Davison (Niece) on: Sep 16, 2022

  • We had a long and very close relationship with Bob and Denise. Wendy taught with Denise and David worked with Bob at the Hudson Bay Co. We often got together socially and attended all their children’s weddings. We have fond memories of Bob and Denise and will miss them dearly! - Posted by: Wendy and David Bissky (Friends) on: Sep 14, 2022

  • To all the Manning kids and grand-kids, my heartfelt condolences go out to you. Bob was an incredibly intelligent, creative, innovative man and had a wicked sense of humour. I can still picture him in my parents' basement in his favourite chair at 21 Blackberry enjoying himself immensely at the many parties the Lawtons put on. He had a magnetic warmth and presence that I will never forget and is a big part of my childhood memories. He made me laugh frequently both as a child and adult. Somewhere in the great beyond, Jim and Helene, Bob and Denise are all having a good laugh and a stiff drink. Love to you all. - Posted by: Susan Rebizant (Lawton) (life long friend) on: Sep 10, 2022

  • I was privileged to know Bob’s entire family, especially through Frontenac School where Denise was a loved worker and knowing all four kids. My favourite memory of Bob was working on their house in Southdale where I got to reacquaint with Bob and Denise. My sympathies to Lee and your family, Barb and your family, Glen and your family and Lisa and your family. I treasure my memories of all of you. - Posted by: Andy Bell (Friend) on: Sep 10, 2022
