LULA IRENE MACLEOD
It is with great sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Lula Irene MacLeod, September 6, 2022, at the age of 88.
Lu was born November 10, 1933 in Pierson Manitoba, the daughter of Reverend John and Mrs. Jean MacLeod. She later lived in Warren, Carberry and Morris prior to attending the University of Manitoba and graduating from the Faculty of Home Economics in 1954.
After graduation, she became the first Home Economist in the Morris office of the Department of Agriculture. She particularly enjoyed working with the 4-H Clubs in her large region. Her affinity for this age group led her into Education. Her first school where she taught Home Economics was in Flin Flon. She then moved to Dauphin where she spent the remainder of her career as the Home Economics teacher in Mackenzie Junior High School. She will be remembered as an accomplished and sensitive teacher.
Eventually she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Here she was pleased to have the time for two of her great interests - reading and music. Lu and her sister Christine enjoyed attending the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra concerts. Lu also loved the challenge of working on crossword puzzles and cryptograms.
Lu and Christine enjoyed travelling. Together they visited many cities and countries around the world. Lu also enjoyed many family events, meals and gatherings. The activities of her much loved nieces and nephews brought her great joy. The support and care she received from them in her later years was much appreciated by her.
Lu will be forever missed by her twin sister Isabelle (Doug) Southam, brother John, and sister-in-law Lorraine MacLeod; nephews and nieces, Gregory (Jennifer) Southam, Tracy, and Sandra (Doug) Southam; Bruce (Debbie) MacLeod, Heather (Greg) Penno, and Angus MacLeod (Laurie), Allison (Arnan) Dachner, Darryl (Amber) MacLeod, Kathryn (James) Friedrich, and Jonathan (Amanda) MacLeod and numerous great- nephews and nieces and one great-great- nephew.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Angus, sister Christine, infant sisters, Jean and Ruth and sister-in-law Maureen.
Respecting Lu's wishes there will be no formal services. A private family memorial will be held later with burial in St. Vital Cemetery.

At the time I met Lu I was in Dauphin to teach swimming at the local swimming pool. Introduced through my mother, Bernice Flood, Lu was a great support for my first time living away from home. She later became a long distance mentor when I became a Home Economics teacher in Souris. We corresponded for years and kept each other informed of our respective family activities. She was always gracious and positive. She will be missed! - Posted by: Sheryl Poirier (née Flood) (Friend) on: Sep 18, 2022
