JAMES (JIM) IAN FORSYTH

Lovingly remembered by family and friends, Jim passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022, at the age of 88.
Beloved husband of Elsie Forsyth, Jim is lovingly remembered by his daughter Sherilyn (Mark), and granddaughters, Sammi (Jordan) and Jamie. Jim was preceded by his parents, Jim and Hazel Forsyth, and his sister Lynn Tracy.
Jim was born in St. Boniface. Jim was a proud employee of the Manitoba Telephone System for over 40 years. Beginning in 1952 in the Plant Department, Jim furthered his education and worked his way up to a Project Coordinator, Manager Division of Revenue, Internal Audit Manager, Director of Review, Audit and Security and retired as Director of Supply Services.
Jim was a leader in his career and in his community, serving as an Alderman and Councillor of St. James-Assiniboia, and was directly involved in the amalgamation of St. James and Assiniboia. Community was important to Jim who also volunteered with the Telephone Pioneers, Kirkfield/Westwood Community Centre, St. James- Assiniboia Recreation Board as well as the Pan Am Games.
Jim was one who kept things organized, efficient and on track. Jim's staff would joke "More for less with Jim" as he focused on ensuring the success of MTS. Jim's skill as an organizer was recognized where he lived as well, serving as President on three separate condominium boards.
Many good times were spent at the cottage at Dorothy Lake with neighbours, family and friends. Not to be idle for long, renovations began. As well, Jim built onto the cottage a beautiful cedar deck overlooking the lake. Jim was the "Jack of all trades".
Jim so loved his family. Elsie was his love, and they celebrated their 65th anniversary in June. He was so proud of Sherilyn, Mark, Sammi and Jamie, and would often speak of their accomplishments. Jim was a regular fan at his granddaughters' volleyball and basketball games, as well as their band and Christmas concerts. He will be sorely missed, but we are blessed to have known him and have in our lives.
A private interment has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Your donation to CancerCare Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society is greatly appreciated.

  • I knew Jim through work and also as a Assiniboia resident. A great person to talk with and discuss issues. Rest in Peace, James - Posted by: Robert Bull (We worked at MTS) on: Sep 26, 2022

  • Jim and I started to work at MTS in the same day having gone to the same schools for many years. I left MTS and ventured into other occupation. We moved away from each other in various areas of the city and in Manitoba as well as being involved in different activities. We reconnected a number of years ago once again. We would frequent Tim Horton's close by with the intention of spending an hour or so talking about our past and our families and where they were in their lives. The hour got extended at times to two and a half hours. They were good times....no... they were GREAT times!! I will miss that. My thoughts prayers and love is extended to all the family. May the memories you have of good times together help to carry each of you through your personal grieving. - Posted by: Mel Finlayson (Friend) on: Sep 24, 2022

  • Jim and Elsie were good friends of my parents Walter and Susan. I had the pleasure of meeting Jim through my parents. I remember having several good conversations with him. He was a gentleman and I had great respect for him. - Posted by: Brian Kushka (Friend) on: Sep 24, 2022
