GERD INGER PAUL
March 7, 1926 - September 14, 2022

Gerd Inger Paul (Nyhus) passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the age of 96.
Gerd was born in Hokksund, Norway and immigrated to a homestead in Northern Alberta at the age of one. Taking her cues from her parents Lars and Margit Nyhus and her older brother Tron, Gerd lived her life with courage, a hard-working constitution and always in service of others. She grew up on the homestead and after school, Gerd aimed to continue to help anyone less fortunate. This path took her from Alberta to the big city of Toronto where she trained to be an officer in the Salvation Army. Upon completion of training she was posted to Winnipeg where she met Leonard Paul. Gerd and Len were married in 1947 and she became a proud farmer's wife and later the mother of three children. She joined St. Vital Baptist Church and continued her purpose in helping in any way she could. This also became the center of her social life and she made many cherished friends along the way. Gerd was a kind, loving, caring person who was always there to help out family, friends and even strangers when she could. She was dedicated to her Faith and her Family. May she rest in peace as she joins her husband Len.
She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Dorothy, Ralph (Leah) and Nancy (Ed), her grandchildren, Steven (Kristine), Laura (Pierre), Derek (Marnie), Scott (Nicole), Bonnie (Adam), Leanne, Kara-Jean (Sean), Brett and her great-grandchildren, David, Gabriel, Griffin, Aidan, Gibson, Lyla, Olive, Levi and Grace!
Many thanks to the doctors and nursing staff on the fifth floor of the Victoria Hospital for their care and help.
A private family burial will take place at St. Vital Cemetery at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My Mom and Dad, Jack and Joan Bender, had a wonderful friendship with Gerd and Len and several other couples who attended St. Vital Baptist Church. For years, they shared life together and contributed to the life of the Church. They were always getting together for fun times, helping one another out and caring for all those whom God put into their lives...what a fun group. I can only imagine the celebration that is taking place in Heaven as they are re-united once again...brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. Interestingly, several years ago, my son and I became good friends with Derek, Marnie and Olive Paul and I didn't realize Derek is Gerd's grandson until now. I think the group in Heaven are sharing a good laugh. I love the interconnections. We'll see you again one day. - Posted by: Judith Marilyn Andrich (My Mom and Dad were best friends of Gerd and Len) on: Sep 21, 2022

  • Gerd was the last one of the females to live the longest. My mom, Mert, your mom and the queen were all the same age. I was going to phone your mom on Wed to congratulate her but I thought I will wait till the weekend. I was so surprised to see her obit in todays paper. Gerd was always a lady and walked in style in her heels. She was always very knowledgeable and very with it. I will miss her, I did her hair once a week for 25 years. She felt so lost when she had to give up driving. She didn't want to bother the family. Gerd had a loving family and I am sure that they will miss her. - Posted by: Pat Suttorp (friend ) on: Sep 17, 2022
