ROSE MARIE FUTZ
(nee KOWALCHUK)

Peacefully at the age of 93, Rose passed at Deer Lodge Centre on September 5, 2022.
Mom was born in Teulon, Manitoba on March 3, 1929 to Alex and Stephanie Kowalchuk; the fourth of seven children. She was predeceased by brothers, Stanley and John and sisters, Ann Medock and Patricia Abuda. Sadly, her eldest daughter Sandra Ibey and son-in-law Len Ibey also predeceased her.
Mom raised her three children, Sandra, Brand and Curtis while employed as a bookkeeper. Although busy with work and family, she managed to make the best perogies and cabbage rolls and was quite the accomplished seamstress. Following her retirement, she volunteered at the Canadian Red Cross and at Lord Roberts School.
Mom had a love of sports and in her younger days she played baseball for Teulon Jets. One of the highlights of her life was to see her beloved "Jays" win the World Series while visiting family in Toronto. Mom also had a passion for theatre and attending productions at Rainbow Stage was a family tradition for us. Thanks to her influence, we all developed an appreciation of the arts.
Mom is survived by brothers, Bruce (Carol) and Dennis (Anne) Kowalchuk, brother-in-law Ed (Sharon) Futz, daughter Brenda Futz, son Curtis Futz, granddaughter Shannon Schmidt, great-grandchildren, Ayden, Ashton and Bailey Schmidt and their father Rob Schmidt.
Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Tower 6, Deer Lodge Centre for their kindness and support provided to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deer Lodge Centre, Dementia Program, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0L3.
Cremation has take place and a service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.

Rest well Mom.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Rose Futz was my long time friend, Brenda’s, Mom and a good family friend. She welcomed me into her home on many occasions over the years and was like a second Mom to me. She took me along with her family to see my first show at Rainbow Stage which left a strong impression on me. She worked hard over the years to raise her children as a single Mom. May God comfort her family and may she Rest In Peace🙏🏻❣️ - Posted by: Pat Wilchowy (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2022

  • Sorry for your loss, prayers to rose's family and friends Julie Schmidt and family - Posted by: julie schmidt (friend) on: Sep 24, 2022

  • So sorry for your loss. Rose was such a feisty woman. We lived across the street from you in The Pas many years ago. She was our Brownie leader. I enjoyed running into her the odd time in Winnipeg and always enjoyed our chats. Take care! - Posted by: Brenda Hedberg-McEachern (Old neighbour ) on: Sep 24, 2022
