LAWRENCE (LARRY) ALFRED HART
November 2, 1942 – September 17, 2022

Approximately 25 years ago, my husband of now 57 years, stated he wanted his obituary to read "Larry Hart quit smoking today". Well, it seemed rather funny at the time, but at 3:28 a.m. Saturday, September 17, it was not funny at all as he passed away from a brain bleed, not the C.O.P.D. that we all thought would be his cause of death due to him NOT having quit smoking.
He was born in Oak Lake, Manitoba to Mel and Min Hart.
He will be missed by his sisters, Margaret (Jack, deceased) and Gwenneth (Norm) Bernard; brother Terry (Patti), sister-in- law Kathy, and close family friends, Jeff and Cathy Winter.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mel and Min and his brother, Ken.
Survived by his wife, Joan (nee Lundy), daughters, Larone (Robert), Richelle (Nelson) and Lindsey (Tim); grandchildren, Taylor (Alyson), Ryan, Madison, Sophie, and Adam and two great-granddaughters, Charli and Codi.
Larry was an avid sportsman, he played junior hockey with the St. Boniface Canadians and went from there to playing with the farm team of the Boston Bruins. He also played minor league baseball and was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame three times.
Larry retired from Moore Business Forms quite some time ago after 37 years of dedicated service.
Larry travelled extensively, even getting to Europe a couple of times. He lived a full and happy life.
He will be missed by many, he was loved. He was a good man and a great Dad.
Many thanks to the Grace Hospital staff for their compassion and support, we were treated well and Larry was treated with great dignity.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday, October 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, please donate to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I’m so sorry to hear that Larry died back in Sept but knew nothing about it until today. I hope you have family and friends around in Winnipeg to give support, if you need it…but I know you are a pretty strong lady. I’m so glad we were able to have a good visit during the OakLake fair and hope to stay in touch from now on. Take care and we will have another visit in OL next summer Darlene and Ray Bright - Posted by: Darlene and Ray Bright (Friend) on: Dec 21, 2022

  • So sorry to hear of this sad news. Larry devoted alot of time to my former employer (now retired) Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg, now known as BGCW and after Larry finished on the Board of Directors, he continued to help source our PR items. Larry always had time to volunteer at many of our Clubs and he even was Santa a few years! We will miss your great sense of humour and wonderful smile. Our deepest sympathy to Joan and her family. Sending much love and big hugs to you all. - Posted by: Val Schroeder (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2022

  • So sorry to hear of Larrys passing, we were teammates and both pitchers with the Transcona Atomics in the late 60s. Larry was a special kind of guy as he could play any position Alfie put him at. Fun guy to be around and I also ran in to Larry at some sr. golf tournaments over the years & yup, he would be outside having a smoke. I also got to know Ken over the years I spent in Saskatoon. Good guys both & may you both RIP. - Posted by: barry mcfarlane (Friend & teammate) on: Sep 27, 2022

  • I/We, my late Husband, Barney, and myself have known Larry and Family for a number of years. He was very special to us, as was all of the Hart family, and my heart is broken for them. As Queen Elizabeth stated, Grief is the price we pay for life, and this is so very true. Sending my love and heartfelt sympathy to all. - Posted by: Donna Thompson (Family Friend) on: Sep 24, 2022
