LEALDINA MARIA VINDINHA HELENO CHAGAS
Peacefully, with family at her side, it is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our "Mae" and "Avo" on September 24, 2022, at the age of 81, at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Lealdina is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Manuel Pedro Chagas, and brother Sebastiao. Lealdina leaves with great pride, her daughter Elizabeth and son Pedro Antonio (Lucy); the joys of her life, grandchildren, Victoria, Julia, Marco, Matteo and sister, Natalia.
Lealdina was born in Vendas Novas, Alentejo, Portugal on August 23, 1941. She completed her education and training as a seamstress in Vendas Novas, Portugal. Once married in 1964, she joined the love of her life, Manuel Pedro, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where they began their life together. In October 1965, Lealdina and Manuel immigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Lealdina focused on her first years in Canada, raising her young family. In 1971, she began her employment with Canadian Linen (Perth's), retiring 33 years later in 2004.
Lealdina appreciated and took pride in preparing her fabulous Portuguese meals. She was incredibly independent, strong-willed and disciplined, as exemplified in the numerous crochet works she often gifted, such as bedspreads and tablecloths, to family and friends. Lealdina's nurturing character was exhibited with the care of her meticulously preparing meals for family and friends as an expression of her love of family.
In 2013 Lealdina was diagnosed with Parkinson's and began a difficult journey until she finally succumbed.
Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, presiding Father Sam Argenziano. Condolences may be offered before the mass between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

The family appreciates and acknowledges the Simkin Center - Simkin 2 South staff, where Lealdina was a resident for the past one and one-half years. Robbie, her cherished Maltese dog, became a regular welcomed visitor to her, the unit and the entire Simkin facility. During these visits, Lealdina's charming smile was evident, making her Parkinson's tolerable.
You will remain in our hearts forever.
