MARY MARGARET (MAGGIE) SCOTT
October 13, 1965 – September 24, 2022

On Saturday, September 24, after a courageous ten year battle with cancer, Maggie passed away peacefully in her home with her husband Wayne by her side.
Maggie was predeceased by her father Ken Scott; mother Kay Scott; sister Kim Scott and father-in-law John Heide.
Left to mourn her passing are husband Wayne Heide; daughter Daryl Heide (Jeff); son Scott Heide (Skyla) and grandchildren, Lily and Isaac. Also left to mourn are brothers, Jim and David (Kelly); mother-in-law Jean Heide; brother-in-law Terry (Marianne); seven nephews and nieces and their partners and children.
Born in 1965, Maggie lived her entire childhood and young adult life in the same home on Consol Avenue in the Morse Place/East Kildonan neighbourhood. As the youngest of four children, who arrived as the "surprise" six years after her brother David, Maggie said it was like growing up with five parents.
Maggie always had a love of school and learning. She had a variety of academic accomplishments including an RN diploma from the St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing (1987), a BA from the University of Manitoba (1999), BN from Athabasca University (2005) and certification as a perioperative nurse.
Maggie spent most of her nursing career in the operating room working in ORS in Winnipeg, Yorkton and Dauphin. The love of the OR was influenced by her sister Kim who was also an OR nurse. Kim was a significant influence in many aspects of Maggie's life.
Maggie's last years of her nursing career were spent as the Clinical Resource Nurse in the Dauphin OR. Even though her career ended prematurely with her cancer diagnosis and surgery in 2012, she still had a nursing career that spanned 25 years.
Family was the most important thing in Maggie's life. Her greatest moments of joy were with her family. Family dinners, vacations or just being together to laugh and enjoy one another was her reason for being. Husband Wayne and children Daryl and Scott and their partners meant the world to her and their love and support made her very difficult ten year battle with cancer easier and more bearable.
In 2022, Maggie was blessed with two grandchildren, Isaac and Lily who immediately moved to the top of the favourites list. Seeing, holding and spending time with them was unexpected, but truly life affirming.
Maggie remained close with her many childhood friends; a testament to the kind of person she was. She also made many new friends during the time she lived in Roblin and after moving to Dauphin. Support of friends and family made tough times so much easier.
Maggie was an active person. She enjoyed gymnastics, baseball and field hockey as a child and curling and golf as an adult. She had the privilege of being able to travel extensively with Wayne and the kids and also with friends. She generously gave back to the community as a volunteer with the food bank and by spearheading teams to fundraise for both CancerCare Manitoba and the Canadian Cancer Society, raising over $45,000 in five years.
Maggie was a kind, generous and happy person who always had a smile and loved to laugh. She put others first and found joy in the happiness and good fortune of others. The world is poorer with her loss, but better for the impact she had on all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held for Maggie on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium (8th Avenue Hall) in Dauphin, Manitoba. Jim Scott will serve as the MC.
