PERKINS: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verona Perkins at the Shoal Lake Personal Care Home at the age of 91 on September 22, 2022. Verona was born in the Rural Municipality of Louise on May 14, 1931. She was the first of seven children born to Victor and Sadie McKinley. Verona was raised in Lenore, MB. After completing Grade 11 she attended teacher training in Winnipeg. Following her graduation, she went on to substitute teaching in many small Manitoba towns. Verona decided she needed more permanent employment and accepted a job as a Manitoba Telephone System (MTS) operator. She was employed at MTS for over 42 years. She started her MTS career in Waskada, MB, then Virden, MB and finally spent many years in Brandon, MB. It was there she worked her way up to a management position, which she retired from in 1991. In 1954, she Married Norval "Ross" Perkins. From this union, three children were born. Brian (deceased in infancy), Sharon and Daniel. Verona and Ross separated and later divorced but remained friends until Ross' passing in 2009. To mourn her passing, she leaves her daughter Sharon and son-in-law Peter Ostash of Shoal Lake, MB, son Dan and daughter-in-law Cathy Perkins of Gimli, MB; four grandchildren, Derek (Miranda) Ostash, Drew Ostash, Owen Perkins, Sarah (Jason) Naylor; and four great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Meadow, Everett Naylor and Xander Ostash. Also left to mourn is her sister Virginia Goodridge, brother Robert "Bert" (Nancy) McKinley, and sister-in-law Pat McKinley. She leaves many nieces and nephews and their extended families. Verona was predeceased by her infant brother Lindsay McKinley, infant son Brian John Perkins, and infant great-granddaughter Nevaeh Naylor. Also predeceasing her are parents Victor and Sadie McKinley, her sister Marian McRae and her sons Malcolm and Glen; Marian's husbands Howard McRae and Joe Kozak; her brother John McKinley and his wife Marilyn; her brother David "Dave" McKinley; and brother-in-law Garnet Goodridge. A celebration of Verona's life will take place at a later date. She will be laid to rest with her infant son Brian John Perkins in a private family gathering at the Virden Cemetery as per her request. She was a strong, amazing woman who was loved by many. Rest easy Mom.

Our sincere condolences to Verona's family and friends. We will treasure our memories of our times with Verona. She was a lovely woman and our great neighbour and friend. My father and I always enjoyed talking and laughing with her. I spent many days sitting on her porch, talking and joking about many things. We will miss her and I thank her for her kindness and friendship. Take Care - Posted by: Brad and Orm Longman (Friend) on: Oct 06, 2022
