WALTER PETER SAMETZ
May 13, 1934 - September 16, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Sametz at age 88 after a multi-year struggle with Parkinson's disease.
He will be forever loved and missed by his wife Mireille and son Andrew, brothers, Orest and Morris Sametz, sisters, Sylvia Dudych and Hazel Yates, and his sisters-in-law, Cathy Sametz and Jeannine Schotyk. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Cassie (nee Talpash) and brother Nestor.
In his younger years, Walter served at Canadian Air Force Base Mercy stationed in Metz, France where he lived for seven years, became fluent in French and married Mireille (nee Schotyk). After returning from France, Walter worked for many years at CAE and the St. James-Assiniboia School Division and owned his own video production company.
Walter was a pillar at St. Mary's the Protectress Cathedral (Sobor), participating in the choir and many parish activities for decades. He was also active in the Ukrainian community, documenting cultural activities with pictures and video.
Walter was always busy helping others in the community and the family would like to thank Poseidon for their hard work supporting him.
Services will be held on Monday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary the Protectress Cathedral, 820 Burrows Ave., followed by a reception and interment at Glen Eden Funeral Home.
For more information call Andrew Sametz (204) 500-0070.
