DEXTER MIRANDA

Dexter Miranda, age 44, passed away peacefully at Percy E. Moore Hospital due to cancer last September 30, 2022, beside his family and friends.
He was born September 18, 1978 in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, Philippines to Asterio and Norma. He married his loving honey, Tess Miranda, in June of 2004. They have three wonderful children named Myx, Klyd, and Sky.
Dexter loved sports, music, cooking and camping. He was a baseball player in Elementary, a volleyball player in high school and a MVP basketball player during his college days. He was a choir tenor in his church, where he met his loving wife, Tess. Singing was one of his passions. He was always sure to belt out a Gary V song or an Eraserheads classic during a karaoke session. He sure was also an awesome cook. He has the best Mung Beans Soup and Pork Sisig recipes, which his family loves. He loved to enjoy Manitoba summers by going out camping with family and friends. The summer was not complete for him without hanging out at a bonfire with friends as they sang with guitar accompaniment, grilling the gang's favourite seasoned pork barbecue, laughing and telling their funny stories while enjoying the zest of their favourite drinks.
Even back in the Philippines, Dexter was a very hard worker. He was a Disaster Response and Management Division staff under the Department of Social Works and Development. In 2008, he decided to pursue a new career in Canada. For many years Dexter worked at Excel Genetics. It wasn't easy to be apart from his family, but he persevered to bring his family to Canada in 2010. Dexter always reminded his children to help each other and love each other. He would always tell his kids. "Kailangang alamin mo kung ang kapatid mo ay walang asin". In English, "Make sure to know if your siblings run out of salt," which means, make sure to always check on your brother or sister if they are doing okay or if they are having difficulties financially, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
His life was a living example of his favourite Bible verse, 2 Timothy 4:7 - "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." All his friends and family knew him as a very strong person, always saying these words... "Hinay-hinay lang, mahaba pa ang laban." Or, in English, "Take it easy, we still have a long journey ahead".
Dexter was predeceased by his grandparents, Lolo Indo Miranda, Lola Intang Miranda, and Lolo Pireng Santos.
Dexter is survived by his wife Tess, his children, Myx, Klyd, and Sky, father Asterio and mother Norma, grandmother Lola Ana Santos, elder brother Tristan and wife Elvira, younger brother Louie and wife Maricel, nieces, Trisha and Loucel Anne, nephews, Ryne, Marc, Jace, and his uncles, aunties, and cousins. All of them he loved and touched deeply.
With a grateful heart, the whole family would like to thank the Filipino Community of Fisher Branch, Arborg, Winnipeg and Steinbach, Brothers in Masonry, Percy E. Moore Hospital staff, CancerCare Manitoba, Fisher Personal Care Home staff, the whole Fisher Branch Community, and everyone who extended their love and support.
Please join us in celebrating his life this coming Sunday afternoon, October 9, 2022, between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at Ukrainian Hall in Fisher Branch, MB.

  • Tess, Myx, Klyd, & Sky, I have fond memories of your family. Dexter was quiet & supportive. He and Tess put importance on education, family, & community. What a blessing it was for me to be part of your family’s life for two years, especially directing Myx, Klyd, & Sky in musicals, a memory that each of you can hold that your father saw you perform with aplomb. My sincere condolence to all of you during this time of utter grief. Mr. Greg Thomas - Posted by: Greg Thomas (Acquaintance) on: Oct 05, 2022

  • Dexter, when our elementary days was a little bit naughty😊he always called me black widow due to my dark skin, but when we grown up, I learned how gentleman and kindhearted he was...How I wish I can see him before his funeral😭😭😭may u rest in peace, Dex..my condolences to Tess & to the whole family❣️ - Posted by: Cristina Castillo (Schoolmate & co barangay) on: Oct 05, 2022
