SUSAN SIMPSON
(NEE BERG)
Passed away peacefully on September 22, 2022 at Calgary, Alberta. Susan was born November 2, 1950 in Vita, Manitoba, and grew up near Stuartburn. Although from "the country", she moved to Winnipeg in 1967. Susan and her husband Murray were married in 1968, and were happily married for 54 years, with Murray remaining by her side until the very end. Upon moving to Winnipeg, Susan went to work for Peerless Garments, and in 1969 moved to ITT Corporation working in the communications manufacturing sector. She remained there through several corporate ownership and name changes, working her way up to floor manager, until the Winnipeg manufacturing operations closed in 1993. Susan believed in the value of a strong work ethic, and in the importance of doing things the right way, even if that way was more difficult. These traits can be seen in her children and grandchildren, to whom she took care to pass on these values. Later in retirement, Susan enjoyed crochet, and her generosity was on display as she loved to crochet baby blankets and give them as gifts to the parents of every new baby she could find. But most importantly, Susan cherished her family, and understood the importance of strong family bonds as the foundation of happiness in this world. Even those who joined the family by marriage were immediately treated as though they had always been family members. From passing on her Mennonite heritage by making kielke with her grandkids to gathering for big holiday dinners, there was nothing more important than family to Susan in this life, and her devotion to her family is her lasting legacy. In addition to Murray, Susan will be sadly missed by her daughters Jennifer (Kevin Burron) and Stephanie (Tom Pearce), sisters Gerdie (Vern Fisher) and Mary, brother Ben (Meryle), and her beloved grandchildren Jillian Burron, Brooke Burron, Jordan Burron, Lauren Burron, Austin O'Connor (Teagen), Jamieson O'Connor, and great-granddaughters Caraline and Madilynn, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Susan was predeceased by her parents, Wilhelm and Nettie Berg, and brothers Bill and John and sister-in-law Jackie. While we will dearly miss Susan in this life, we look forward to a reunion with her in the life of the world to come. The family would like to thank Dr. Karim and nurse Sandra Whalen and the other nurses and staff at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and the nurses and staff at the Southwood Hospice for the care they provided to Susan during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. A celebration of life for Susan will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 at Eden Brook Reception Centre with tributes beginning at 2:00.
