JAMES GORDON DALTON
October 24, 1947 - October 7, 2022

On Friday, October 7, 2022, James Dalton passed away peacefully at the age of 74. He was predeceased by wife Sandy (nee Hastings) in 1991 and is survived by Claudette Chapman.
James will be lovingly missed by his three children, Mark (Oana), Andrea, and Kimberly; his grandchildren, Stefan, Andre, Brad, Benjamin, and Aaron; and by his siblings, Jan (Doug) Messing, Ken (Marina), and Ron (Helene) as well as his large extended family.
James was born in Calgary on October 24, 1947 to Kathleen and Gordon Dalton, but spent most of his life in Winnipeg. He grew up active in the St. James community and graduated from St. James Collegiate in 1965.
James was a graduate of the University of Manitoba (PhD in Immunology, 1975) and completed his post doctoral research at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California. He went on to work in diagnostic healthcare for over 43 years: Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre (1979-2003), Diagnostic Services of Manitoba (founding CEO, 2003-2011), Dalton Health Care Consulting (2011-2021), and the University of Manitoba (Assistant Professor, 1979-2022). Recently, he was most proud of his volunteer work with The Canadian Executive Service Organization, which included assignments in Guyana and Kazakhstan. James was a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry since 1984.
James enjoyed time at the cottage, travelling, completing a home renovation project, or reading a favourite book. James was a role model to many and cared deeply about his family and friends; his commitment to others was evident in all he did.
James spent most of his life active and healthy, always up for any sort of physical task and with a seemingly infinite supply of energy. Even when slowed down in his last years, he was determined to travel one more time to visit friends and family in the U.K.
A celebration of his life will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, on Friday, October 14th, 2022 at 2:00pm. A private reception to follow.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends desire, a donation may be made in James' memory to The Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Society of Canada (https://pspsocietycanada.ca/home-ngo/donate) or The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba (https://goodbear.ca/tribute).
