BOHDAN MICHAEL JAWORSKI
October 13, 1933 - October 6, 2022
Peacefully on October 6, 2022, our beloved father and grandfather passed away in Winnipeg at the age of 88. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Joyce. He leaves to mourn his two children Gary and Theresa and grandson Connor, brother Jaroslaw (Helen), brother in law Mike (Anne), sister in law Fran, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Bohdy was born on October 13, 1933 in St. Boniface, Manitoba to Ukrainian pioneers Ivan (John) and Eugenia Jaworski. As a child of immigrants, his first language was Ukrainian. When he went to school he did not understand English, so they kept him in grade one an extra year. After that it was clear sailing. It was the war years, so being an Army Cadet was mandatory. He excelled in target shooting and was sent to a number of competitions, including Ottawa. After he graduated from high school, he went on to the University of Manitoba, where he was a member of "Obnova" (a Ukrainian Catholic University Student Group) and graduated with honors from the faculty of Pharmacy. Upon graduating he joined the pharmacy department at the Winnipeg General Hospital (now the Health Sciences Centre). In time he was promoted to Assistant Chief Pharmacist. His field of work was in "innovative purchasing" and he won awards for this work. Bohdy embodied the faith, determination, and work ethic of his generation.
He was a long time member of the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association, Ukrainian Professional Businessmen's Club, Knights of Columbus, and Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers (SOUP).
His passions were going to the family cottage at Eleanor Lake, fishing, family history, photography, and travel with trips to Ukraine, China, Mexico, and Europe. Bohdy's intellectual curiosity to understand a changing world spanned nine decades and never ceased to amaze. He was very friendly with his neighbours both in the city and out at the cottage and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His beautiful wife Joyce was the centre of his life, and he was the ultimate provider for his children. His grandson Connor was born premature at 1lb 14 oz. and Bohdy (Gapa) became his champion. He spent countless hours with him in NICU, Children's Hospital, and at home. He built him equipment like a crawler and pool lift from his "parts warehouse" in the basement or garage. Our "larger than life" father will be truly missed. Funeral Service will be celebrated by Fr. Darren Kawiuk, on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion Street. Attendees will be required to wear face masks. Private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca).

Our condolences to you Gary and Theresa and Conner. Bohdy's devotion to his grandson was truly inspirational. I loved my annual visits with him and the rest of your family. It was Bohdy's gracious hospitality made the MOS orchid show really special for me. Rest in Peace, Bohdy. - Posted by: Terry and Doug Kennedy (friend) on: Oct 15, 2022

On Mon Sept 5, I had the privilege of having what was to be a final visit and conversation with Uncle Bohdy who, along with Joyce was an integral part of my life and that of my family. He was like a grandfather to Lindsay and Tyler, always had a smile, couldn’t do enough for us, always there when asked, never said no. His persona embodied all the traits of an outstanding , loving person. Theresa, Gary, and Connor…… your father/ grandfather couldn’t have designed a better legacy. I empathize with your loss and hope these words from my heart give some comfort. With love and respect……Connie - Posted by: Connie Magura (Niece) on: Oct 13, 2022

My condolences to the family. Your father and grandfather was a great guy. In our university days we dedicated much time for all sorts of Ukrainian causes. Caroling at Christmas time was an annual ritual. And we ended these sessions with great after scrolling parties at you parents house. He will be fondly remembered and in our prayers. - Posted by: Irene Gajecky. (Michalchyshyn) (Obnova colleague) on: Oct 12, 2022
