WILLIAM ROBERT HUNTLY JESSIMAN
July 23, 1926 - July 26, 2022
Just three days after his 96th birthday, Bill passed away peacefully with sister Patricia at his side. Bill was predeceased by parents Peter and Elizabeth; sister Maud Searle; niece Megan Jessiman; and brother-in-law William Treidler. He is survived by sisters Patty and Grace; as well as brothers Ian (Rae) and Duncan (Judy). He will also be remembered by nieces and nephews Nancy, Peter, Heather, Stacey, Elizabeth, Craig, Robert, Stewart, and David.
Bill grew up at 627 Spruce Street in Winnipeg's West End and attended Isaac Brock and Gordon Bell schools, before graduating from the University of Manitoba with a degree in pharmacy. He worked in Montreal before returning to Winnipeg to head up the family local delivery company Jessiman Brothers Cartage. He remained at the helm of JBC until the company was sold in 1989.
Golf was a big interest, and he loved playing at St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg, Mission Hills in Palm Springs, and at Clear Lake and other courses when on one of his golf trips with friends. Palm Springs was a favourite place for Bill and it is where he spent many years vacationing at his winter home. He also loved gardening, which became a passion of his at his Twin Oaks residence in St. Andrews in his early adult years.
Bill was a kind, humble and modest man who quietly supported a host of local charities. He spent the majority of his time with family and lovingly supported his father Peter through his late years. His best friend throughout his life was his dear sister Patty, who not surprisingly, was by his side when he passed.
Bill was always extremely proud of his Scottish heritage and he and Patty together collected countless pieces of Scottish memorabilia. He always enjoyed reminiscing about his parents and "the homeland" when chatting with Duncan and Judy, Grace and Bill, Ian and Rae, and the relatives in-and-around Huntly, Scotland.
Bill was extremely thankful for the help of his nephew Peter and Peter's wife Dana, who tirelessly helped Bill in recent years. He also greatly appreciated the help of Melanie Lokstet, who Bill and Patty became friends with in 2012. He had a real fondness for his nieces Nancy, Heather, Elizabeth, and Stacey, who he always enjoyed visits with.
In keeping with Bill's wishes, a private family service was held.
If you so choose, in his honour, a donation to DASCH Inc., or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Rest in peace Bill
