THEODORE STANLEY EWANIKA
October 1932 - October 2022

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear husband and father Ted, on Sunday, October 2, just a few days shy of his 90th birthday.
Ted is predeceased by his parents and first wife Daphne (nee Legere). Survived by his loving wife Lois; sons, Dwayne (Pamela), Dwight (Susan); brothers, Joe (Adele), Brian (Marita); Lois' sons, Brent (Angela) Aaron (Christine); his adored grandchildren, Kate and Jack; many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Ted joined the Air Force as a young man, flying F86 Fighter Jets. He was particularly skilled at linguistics and would have been stationed in Moscow, if the family farm had not required his presence. He returned to Hazelridge, to manage the family farm for some time.
His love for working the land continued, as a hobby farmer at the Hazelridge and Cooks Creek properties and manicuring his beloved yard at the home on Henderson Highway, where he and Daphne raised their two boys.
Ted began a career at Air Canada, rising up the ranks to become the Manager of Flight Crew scheduling, which he enjoyed for 28 years. He made lifelong friendships at Air Canada, he was well respected and liked by all.
Those that knew Ted, knew his love for all sports, but specifically his love of hockey. A hockey and baseball player himself, he shared and nurtured his love of sport with his boys. He coached their hockey teams and watched proudly as they excelled at the game. Ted stayed active in the hockey community, becoming very involved in the River East Minor Hockey Association and Gateway Community Club for many years.
Ted loved to travel and had many wonderful trips with family and friends over the years, he especially enjoyed their trips to Barbados. Being a bit of a historian, he was always interested in learning about other cultures and ways of life.
Ted also had a love of music, Johnny Cash being a favourite. In his younger years he played fiddle, guitar and sang at weddings, a passion he continued, singing to his grandchildren later in life.
Ted was a true gentleman and was always kind to others. He had a positive outlook on life, always the optimist, encouraging people to be their best and believe in themselves. Ted, often commented on what a wonderful life he lived and his greatest pleasure came from being with his family, who will miss him dearly.
Special thanks to the staff at Victoria Hospital, 4 North, for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinsons Society.
A private family Celebration of Life is planned, interment to follow at a later date.

Safe in the arms of Jesus.

  • I remember Ted well in crew scheduling as his office was next door to IFS at the wpg airport. His witty & kind demeanour with colleagues brings good memories. He was good with crew members & went out of his way to assist when called to do so. His 1st wife, Daphne was a flight attendant so airline was a way of life. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Karen skinner (Air canada colleague) on: Oct 15, 2022
