ROBERT LYNN SALKELD
February 19, 1947 - October 8, 2022
Peacefully at home, with family by his side, Robert Lynn Salkeld passed away at the age of 75 on October 8, 2022.
Predeceased by his father, Leland "Bud" Salkeld in 1986; his mother Henrietta Salkeld in 2001; and his furbaby, Murray in 2022; Robert will be lovingly remembered by his beloved partner of 42 years, Ann Petricig; children Robin (Jim Waldner), Jaret (Kim), Tony (Linda Wolfe), Michael (Megan), Lisa (Ryan Danylchuk); grandchildren Taylor, Ryan, Brianna, Tyra, Aliyah, Myles, Colby, Payton, Brooklyn and Jayce; sister Elaine (Ron Murray); brother Donald; nieces and nephews Delaine Figur, Mike (Gwen) Murray, Robbie (Janet) Murray, Michelle Salkeld and Darren (Rhonda) Salkeld; many great-nieces, great-nephews and treasured friends; cherished canine companion, Holly.
Robert was born in Winnipeg in 1947, later moving to Stonewall. As a teenage boy he developed a passion for cars. He would drive around with his arm on the back of the passenger seat and stick the petal to the metal. He also found a love of collectables and acquired many treasures throughout his life.
As a young man, Robert started his first business, Salkeld Goose Hatchery; he also owned and operated Pattersons Sewage, which his son Jaret still operates today. Robert worked alongside his brother Donald for years at Northern Goose Processors in Teulon. It was there he met Ann and the second chapter of his life began. Robert went on to work for Boeing of Canada where he became an Industrial Mechanic and Union representative. In 2005, Robert joined Ann for a new adventure. The couple started Annrob Trucking, where they drove together as a team until retiring in 2015. Robert always had a strong work ethic and taught his kids 'if you want something, you have to work for it.'
In 1990, the family moved from Teulon to Stony Mountain, where Robert and his boys built the shop. Robert spent countless hours in the shop working on his cars and tinkering, two of his favourite things to do. A few years later, the couple bought the family cottage in Petersfield, and for 24 years they celebrated many birthdays, holidays and long weekends together. They went on to tear down the original cottage and build their retirement home in its place.
Twenty-five years ago Robert was blessed when he became a Papa. He loved spending time with his grandkids and always took the time to teach them what he knew. He loved them all dearly.
Robert enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to winter trips with his family and friends. This led him and Ann to a vacation home in Texas where they spent the winter months enjoying the heat and visiting Mexico. In Texas it was always, as Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffet so perfectly put: 5 o'clock somewhere.
Robert liked to keep up with friends from every stage of his life. He made sure everyone knew his door was always open, and he was up for company and good times.
The family would like to send special thank you to Kim Hanson for all of her help with Robert's health and support over the years. Thank you to all of Robert's doctors. We would also like to thank Joan English and Danielle Gagnon.
A Celebration of Life will be held in summer 2023.
Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation in Robert's name to a charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.
