ALEX GARTH MONDOR
Alex Garth Mondor passed away on Friday October 7, 2022 at the age of 80 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma Olive Mondor and Joseph Emmanuel Mondor both of Pilot Mound, Manitoba, and his nephew Michael Cowan of White Rock, British Columbia.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 59 years, Lois Anne Mondor; his children, Susan (Sergio), Chris (Anna), and Todd; and grandchildren, Angelique, Liana, Jonah, Alexandre (Caesy), and Austin (Rachel). He will be remembered fondly by extended family including his sister Donna Cowan and niece Maureen Cowan, family friend Leslie Mondor, and many friends and former colleagues.
Alex was a gifted athlete, excelling in baseball in his youth, and an avid outdoorsman. He began working at a young age doing odd jobs in town including setting pins at the local bowling alley, before building bridges across southern Manitoba with his father, and then moving to Winnipeg for a lengthy career with Manitoba Telephone System (MTS).
Alex embraced 'freedom 55' in retiring from MTS in 1997 but stayed active in retirement including establishing and running a landscaping company, renovating and maintaining his cottage in Dunnotar, and serving as the president of the board of directors of Willow Centre for more than 20 years. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and cheering them on in all of their activities.
Alex's family would like to express sincere thanks to the Seven Oaks Hospital Dialysis Unit, for their care and attention over the last three years.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 (www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca).
At Alex's request, cremation has taken place. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4588 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg. Reception to follow. Private interment will take place at a later date.
