MADELINE ROSE HICKAWAY
(nee GROSS)

September 7, 1929 - October 8, 2022

With deep sadness we said good-bye to our dear mom. We will remember her as a fun-loving, supportive, creative, and hard-working mom.
She was married to Tony, the love of her life, for 68 years. Mom will be deeply missed and forever loved by her kids: Sherry (Dale), Kevin (Wendy), Greg (Lynette), Todd (Carol) and grandkids: Alexis (Brad), Ross, Mark, Daniel and Claire.
Friends and family will remember Mom as that aunt/friend who always kept in touch, especially with email. She and Dad travelled the world making friends wherever they went. Mom enjoyed dancing, gardening, plants, crafts, and animals. She raised and showed toy poodles and her little flock of dogs followed her everywhere. She was an expert self-taught dog groomer. There was nothing Mom couldn't learn to do. After mastering the computer, she created elaborate slide shows with photos and even wrote a very entertaining autobiography. Mom was keen about health and fitness, attending the Wellness Institute regularly with Dad. She loved her years at the Louise Lake cottage berry-picking and partying with life-long friends from the EK dance club.
Mom taught us so much; the love of family, travel, and animals. She was the planner, the instigator, and the heart of our family. We count ourselves lucky to have had such a wonderful mom.
Special thanks go to the staff at Kildonan PCH for all their care. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke. We will host a Celebration of Life at a future date.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Dear Sherry, Kevin,Greg, Todd and families I am sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. She leaves behind a legacy of the beautiful children that she brought into this world and raised. I have so many happy memories from our teen years at your house on Cheriton Avenue. She made me feel so welcome and I truly enjoyed my visits with her. I will always be in awe of how your Mom could rock a bikini in her 40’s!! “Auntie Mommy” and Tony were such a loving couple and now their souls are united. Take care of each other. Love, Roslyn (lifelong friend) - Posted by: Roslyn Binda (Friend ) on: Oct 20, 2022
