GUY SIMONIS

It is with sadness that we report the passing of Guy Simonis in Vancouver Canada. Born in Leiden in the Netherlands, Guy and Ina immigrated to Canada in 1954.
Guy was a builder and supporter of sports, a pioneer in the lottery industry in both Canada and around the world.
He is survived by his wife Ina and three children: Len (Jennifer), Joanne (Randy), and Cynthia. He was predeceased by daughter Nadine in 2008. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren have spread Guy's extended family to Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Atlanta areas. He will be missed ... but he has left a lasting legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests a donation to Crohn's and Colitis Canada in his memory.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My husband Grant and I were good friends of Guy and Ina in their Winnipeg years, and enjoyed many jam sessions, fun car trips, and singsongs & games at their Matlock cottage. Grant died suddenly in California in 1997, and Guy, who was then living in B.C., came back to Winnipeg to speak at his funeral. That's the kind of loyal friend he was! The friendship continued after Grant's death, as Guy and I emailed back and forth for close to 25 years. I was the lucky recipient of his books honouring his family and his years with the lotteries. My son Greg, his wife Andrea and I were invited to many celebrations, notably his retirement where we were lucky enough to see his rendition of "Route 66" which was just one of Guy's "one of a kind" presentations. Guy was an exceptional and talented man, and he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Lib Downes - Posted by: Lib Downes (friend) on: Oct 18, 2022
