Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySATEANA: Harper Luanne Nauya Sateana Barr passed away on October 16th, 2022, at the age of 28 years, from complications and challenges of Prader-Willi Syndrome. She leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Alison Barr and David Sateana; brother, Keenan Sateana; Grandma, Anna Pepper; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from Rankin Inlet, BC and Manitoba. Harper was born in Brandon, Manitoba and raised in Rankin Inlet and Yellowknife. In the last few years, she lived in Victoria and mostly loved walking her dog Bella on Dallas Road, and spending time with her kitty Bee. She loved swimming in pools, lakes, oceans and lagoons - the colder the better. It took her a thousand belly flops but she eventually learned to dive head first. She loved traveling and meeting up with family and friends - all of whom meant the world to her. She was involved in Special Olympics in the NWT and competed provincially in figure skating; and made many friends in her community involvement in Yellowknife. Over the years as a young person Harper volunteered for seniors at Aven Manor, in the auxiliary gift shop at Stanton General Hospital, and at the stables, as she loved spending time with horses - given her love of animals. Harper was a great defender of the vulnerable and championed inclusivity. She was known for her kindness and thoughtful ways - she was our Sweet Pea. A Celebration of Life will be held in Brandon at the Colonial Inn on Friday, October 17th, from 2:00 4:00pm. The family hopes to gather with the Yellowknife community and in Rankin Inlet in the coming months. Donations in Harper's memory may be made to your local SPCA.

I only had Harper for five years in my own lifetime. Even if it was a very hard relationship, Harper made me a better man too. She bravely and patiently accepted the life and challenges that came with her illness. She had compassion for people and a great heart for animals. Harper was kind, easily made friends, and knew how to make you an excellent meal. She loved her food, which was her final challenge in life, but we all knew that this fight could not be won. Though it is very difficult for me to accept, in so many other ways, I must think of it as a short but full life. Harper's memory will never go away. - Posted by: John Wannecke (former Spouse (step dad)) on: Dec 18, 2022
